INFUSION CENTER PHARMACY (Billings Clinic Main Campus)

Employment Status: Full-Time (.75 or greater)
Hours per Pay Period: 1.00 = 80 hours (Exempt)
Starting Wage DOE: $50.84 - 62.72

May be eligible for $20,000 sign on bonus

The incumbent in this position is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and delivery of high quality pharmaceutical services. Work of the graduate pharmacist is conducted under the review and supervision of the registered pharmacist.

Essential Job Functions

Supports and models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic\'s mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.
Reviews and interprets physician orders to ensure appropriate medication use. Contacts physician to clarify any questionable order. (Patient Care, Pharmacy, Patient Safety)
Carefully checks all data entry, medication carts, and ADM fills for accuracy. (Resource Management, Audits, Medication Data Entry)
Accurately, safely, and properly prepares or supervises the preparation of all sterile (e.g., IV admixtures) and non-sterile products. (Patient Care, Pharmacy, Sterile & Non-Sterile Products Prep)
Controls the distribution of controlled substances, dangerous drugs, and investigational drugs as required by state and federal regulations. (Patient Care, Pharmacy, Controlled Substance Distribution b.)
Participates as needed in clinical programs and/or functions as a clinical pharmacist. (Patient Care, Pharmacy, Clinical Pharmacist Functions)
Assists in the training and orientation of new employees, students, and residents. Provides assistance, direction, and clinical supervision of the pharmacy technical staff. (Education, Staff, Orientation & Training AND Leadership, Resource, Pharmacy Clinical Leadership )
Documents and is accountable for all clinical pharmacy interventions. (Health Information Management, Patient Chart, Pharmacy Interventions)
Performs other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

  • Additional Duties for Clinical Pharmacist II
Participates in the organizational drug utilization review program to include:
Monitoring drugs, disease states, and clinical pathways and interacts with physicians to optimize drug therapy; writes consults in progress notes.
Recommends therapeutic alternatives to physicians to increase therapeutic efficiency and reduce cost.
Develops drug use criteria, clinical pathways, and other tools used to monitor drug therapy.
Makes presentations to the medical, nursing, and pharmacy staff as required by DUR program.
Document consults in designated patient chart or medical record. ADD(Patient Care, Pharmacy, Drug Utilization Review)
Acts as a drug information resource to medical staff, other professionals, patients, and their families. Participates in the educational needs of all customers listed previously. Education, counseling, and in-servicing are a large part of the position duties. (Education, Clinical Pharmacist, Drug Education Resource)
Writes clinical evaluations of new drugs to help determine if they will be added to the formulary. (Patient Care, Pharmacy, Formulary Planning)
Acts as a preceptor for pharmacy students and PGY1 residents. (Leadership, Preceptor, Precepts Students & Residents)
Monitors all aspects of drug therapy, makes appropriate chart notations and interventions on the patients\' behalf. (Patient Care, Pharmacy, monitors drug therapy.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy with advanced clinical training
Certifications and Licenses
  • Current Montana Pharmacist license obtained by hire
  • Healthcare Provider CPR Certification required within 90 days of hire
  • ACLS Certification within 1 year of hire as deemed appropriate based on job duties
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered. Employees that require a licensed or certification must be properly licensed/certified and the licensure/certification must be in good standing.
