As an Infrastructure Configuration Consultant within PNC\'s Site Reliability Center (SRC), this position is primarily based in a location within PNC\'s footprint of Phoenix, Dallas, Birmingham or Pittsburgh. Responsibilities require weekly time in the office. Some responsibilities can be performed remotely. Additional locations may be considered.

The required schedule is Friday 7:00am-3:30pm, Saturday and Sunday 7:00am-8:00pm, & Monday 7:00am-3:30pm

Candidate should possess skills that are aligned to the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles with a focus on the discipline specific to this position. SRE is a software engineering approach to PNC\xe2\x80\x99s SRC Operations. SRE professionals use software as a tool to manage systems, solve problems, and automate tasks. Engineers\xe2\x80\x99 focus specializes in improving all aspects of reliability, acting as a conduit between infrastructure and application teams on support issues and improving tools, automation, processes, and software.

  • Build automation to manage the SRC operations and eliminate/minimize manual functions and toil
  • Collaborate with Application/Infrastructure support engineers and operations teams
  • Engage in post-incident reviews for improvements and determining the cause to prevent recurrence
  • Document work to turn findings into repeatable actions via knowledge articles
  • Mentoring and coaching junior engineers
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience with web-based applications, SOA (Services Oriented Architectures), and web application servers, e.g., WebLogic, and WebSphere
  • Competency in relational database structures and SQL
  • Experience with process documentation and documentation tools, e.g., Visio
  • Experience with UNIX system administration and TCP / IP networking
  • Experience using Java, J2EE, XML, SQL, and Shell / Perl Scripting in a UNIX environment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team, taking ownership of tasks and driving them to completion
  • Relevant certifications, such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), or Pure Storage Certified Architect (PCA), are a plus
  • ITIL fundamentals

  • Manages the requirements for planning, organizing, and implementing enterprise-wide technology infrastructure and configuration management functions.
  • Leads the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of major configuration changes from acquisition to termination.
  • Oversees the effective implementation and use of the configuration management process, methodology, tools, procedures, and audit activities.
  • Develops and publishes metrics to qualify and quantify configuration success; ensures that configuration practices are in compliance with standards.
  • Ensures the accuracy and validity of the configuration database for content on assets, major infrastructure and platform components, system documentation and service components.

Performance Measurement and Tuning \xe2\x80\x93 Knowledge of and the ability to monitor, measure, and optimize individual and combined utilization of hardware, software and telecommunications components.

Software Change Request Management \xe2\x80\x93 Knowledge of, and experience with, managing product change requests from customers, prospective customers, vendors, and internal staff.

Software Product Installation and Support \xe2\x80\x93 Knowledge of, and experience in, helping customers install, integrate, and operationalize software products or systems.

System and Technology Integration \xe2\x80\x93 Knowledge of the features and facilities of systems, and the ability to integrate and communicate among applications, databases and technology platforms.

Systems Software Infrastructure \xe2\x80\x93 Knowledge of software technology, and the ability to plan global, regional and local software architecture and infrastructure components.

Work Experience

Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree, with 3+ years of relevant / direct industry experience. Certifications are often desired. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education and experience (including military service) may be considered.
