The Division of Technology Services is seeking an Information Technology Manager I to lead the Edge Desktop team. This IT Manager position requires a high level of expertise and broad experience in management, desktop hardware, applications, and advanced trouble shooting. This manager will lead the Desktop Team in the End User Computing (EUC) group, also known as the 'Edge' group, for the Division of Technology Services. The role reports to the IT Director for DTS Edge, and manages over 100 technical support specialists and supervisors. This role requires organized management experience, and a high level of expertise and broad experience in desktop hardware, applications and advanced troubleshooting

The Edge Desktop team is responsible for providing desktop support to over 25 Agencies across the State of Utah, along with supporting end-user products such as device operating systems, virtual desktop products, patching devices monthly, device anti-virus security products, and proficiency in the Windows desktop operating system.

The individual in this position will be asked to focus in leading Desktop Support in efficiency improvements, special projects, and compliance initiatives that directly impact end users. With this in mind, a successful candidate will be expected to continually improve their knowledge and skills in each of these areas of focus, but also be a dynamic people person leader with high levels of emotional intelligence and also be customer service centric.

Location:

This position is currently a hybrid of both in-office and telework days; 3 days a week are required in office, and any mandatory in-office meetings. The office location is at the Taylorsville State Office Building,

4315 South 2700 West, Taylorsville.

Responsibilities

Tune with your teams and actively work to remove roadblocks for your team that hinder success. Coordinate the efforts of support and project teams that build, enhance and support DTS products. Provide direction for end-user computing technologies. This includes patching, application delivery, automation functions, new Windows OS version adoption, and all aspects of support for these technologies. Track, report on, and implement process changes to improve end user related metrics. Regularly track, review, and drive project work forward. Experience with the Agile and SAFe framework is a plus. Ensures that the technical teams develop documentation for future reference and support needs. Align with leadership to co-develop a complete life-cycle and strategy of technical solutions. Work with all areas of DTS and Agency IT Directors to communicate and coordinate technology change, plan delivery, and understand the impacts. Meet with customers to facilitate product adoption, handle service requests, solicit feedback, explain enhancements or changes, and provide other customer support. Meet with senior leadership to provide updates on the health and life cycle of various Edge products and services. Leads and directs comprehensive policies, standards, and procedures. Stays abreast of industry trends and understands the direction of applicable technology support capabilities and ensures the technology environment is agile enough to change quickly to support. Maintain and track annual budgets and ensure operating within these budgets. Develop staff through mentoring, counseling, career planning, performance reviews, feedback, and recruiting and retaining the best and brightest talent.

To be successful in this role, the selected candidate will need experience leading technical teams, experience with project management, experience with budgeting, obsessed with customer service and customer satisfaction, extremely collaborative and communicative, enjoy a busy schedule with multiple demands, and possess an understanding of end user computing technologies.

Leadership of this large Desktop group will take a dynamic people person with high levels of emotional intelligence.

Preference may be given for someone with a technical related education, and related experience in a technology function; and management experience, demonstrated in a technology environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Management skills that encompass technical knowledge, sensitivity, professionalism, and organization. The ability to work autonomously and effectively plan, organize, and prioritize time and workload. Communicate information and ideas regularly and effectively, while remaining open to new information, feedback, and ideas regularly and effectively. Experience in participating in the design, building, and maintenance of enterprise-class IT solutions. Project management (traditional, Agile, SAFe). Experience in product management. Developing annual budgets, and ensuring operating within these budgets. The ability to collaborate with other IT Managers within DTS Edge and other DTS teams will be instrumental in the success of this position.
