will prepare, prime, and apply protective and finish coatings to structural and miscellaneous steel in shop and field environments. This role is responsible for ensuring coatings are applied in accordance with project specifications, safety requirements, and quality standards to protect steel from corrosion and ensure a high-quality finished product.
Responsibilities
Prepare steel surfaces for coating by cleaning, degreasing, sanding, grinding, blasting, and masking as required.
Mix, thin, and apply paints, primers, and coatings in accordance with manufacturer specifications and project requirements.
Apply coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment, including airless and conventional spray systems.
Measure and verify dry film thickness (DFT) and ensure proper coating coverage.
Identify all tools, equipment, materials, and coatings required for each job.
Set up and maintain painting and ventilation equipment.
Protect adjacent surfaces, materials, and completed work from overspray or damage.
Perform touch-ups and repairs as required to meet quality standards.
Follow all safety procedures related to painting operations, including proper handling of hazardous materials.
Identify safety risks and comply with all PPE and jobsite safety requirements.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Assist with other shop or field activities when not actively painting.
Other duties as assigned.

Must have industrial, commercial, or structural steel painting experience.
Must have knowledge of surface preparation methods and coating systems.
Must be able to work with a variety of industrial coatings and materials.

Required Qualifications
Must have experience painting structural steel or industrial equipment.
Knowledge of surface preparation standards (SSPC / NACE familiarity preferred).
Ability to operate spray equipment, grinders, and surface preparation tools.
Ability to read and follow coating specifications and technical data sheets (TDS).
Ability to measure and verify coating thickness using appropriate gauges.
Must have reliable transportation.
Must be able to work at heights as required.
Must be able to work in shop and field environments.
Must be able and willing to assist with other trades or activities as needed.
Must meet all physical demands outlined below.
Physical Requirements
Employee will be required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, and reach for extended periods.
Will use hands and arms to hold, control, and operate tools, spray equipment, and materials.
May be required to lift, carry, and move materials up to 50 lbs.
Will work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and may work from platforms or scaffolding using appropriate fall protection.
Must be able to work in all weather conditions (heat, rain, cold, wind) while wearing required PPE.
Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, respirators, hearing protection, hi-vis safety vest, protective clothing, gloves, and steel-toed work boots.
