This role focuses on ensuring that all incoming components, unit cartons, and labels meet established quality specifications before being released for production or internal use.



Job Title: Incoming Quality Inspector




Reports To: Quality Assurance (QA) Inspection Supervisor



Job Summary





The Incoming Quality Inspector is responsible for performing visual and dimensional inspections, verification, and testing of all materials received from external suppliers, specifically

components (e.g., bottles, closures, pumps, containers)

,

unit cartons

, and

labels

. This role is critical to preventing defective materials from entering the manufacturing process, thereby safeguarding final product quality and reducing costly production downtime.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities




Inspection and Sampling:

Perform required sampling (AQL) and detailed visual and physical inspections of incoming raw materials and packaging components against approved specifications, control plans, and Bill of Materials (BOMs).

Component Verification:

Focus inspections on critical packaging components, including dimensional checks (e.g., neck finish, height, fitment) of containers, pumps, caps, and closures using appropriate tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers).

Label and Carton Verification:

Scrutinize incoming

unit cartons

and

labels

for correct print registration, color matching, font size, placement, batch codes, expiration dates, and accurate product information based on approved proofs.

Documentation:

Accurately complete all required receiving and inspection records, including

Incoming Inspection Reports (IIRs)

, and ensure the proper labeling and quarantine status of all materials.

Non-Conforming Material (NCM) Management:

Immediately identify, isolate, and document any non-conforming materials. Initiate and assist in the investigation of supplier defects and work with QA and Procurement to manage material disposition (Return to Vendor or Scrap).

System Integrity:

Ensure all physical material identification matches the corresponding Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Warehouse Management System (WMS) records.

Maintenance:

Maintain and calibrate inspection tools and keep the inspection area clean and organized.

Qualifications and Requirements




Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or technical certification is a plus.

Experience:

1-3 years of experience in a Quality Control or Inspection role, preferably in a manufacturing environment (Pharmaceutical, Cosmetic, or Food industries preferred).

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and color standards. Working knowledge of basic measuring tools (e.g., calipers, ruler, gauge).

Quality Knowledge:

Familiarity with

Acceptable Quality Limit (AQL)

sampling standards (e.g., ANSI/ASQ Z1.4).

Communication:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to clearly document findings and communicate with suppliers and internal teams.

Physical:

Ability to stand for extended periods and lift or move materials up to 25 lbs.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)




Accuracy of Incoming Inspection Reports. Timeliness of material inspection and release to production. Reduction in downstream production holds/scraps due to incoming material defects.
