Position Summary
The
Import Specialist
provides subject matter expertise in handling imports, ensuring compliance with U.S. Customs and international regulations, managing documentation, and delivering high-quality service to customers. This role supports more complex shipments, offers technical guidance to agents, and ensures operational accuracy and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Handle and oversee the import process for high-value or complex shipments
Classify products under HTSUS and ensure documentation accuracy
Serve as a point of contact for customers requiring specialized assistance
Train and support agents on import processes, systems, and compliance
Review and approve commercial invoices, HTS classifications, and customs entries
Collaborate with Customs brokers, carriers, and regulatory bodies as needed
Research and resolve shipment delays, discrepancies, or compliance issues
Maintain expertise in regulations (EAR, CCL, ITAR, HazMat, FMC, Incoterms, etc.)
Support process improvements and contribute to efficiency initiatives
Provide feedback to management on operational challenges and solutions
Education
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Supply Chain, or related field preferred
Experience
2-4 years of import or logistics operations experience
Skills and Abilities
Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs processes, HTSUS, and documentation requirements
Experience with TMS, customs entry software, and Excel/Google Sheets
Strong problem-solving, organizational, and customer service skills
Preferred certifications: CES, HazMat, IATA Dangerous Goods
