The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at South Dakota State University (SDSU) is seeking a highly motivated individual to support and assist in the direction research projects within the SDSU Image Processing Laboratory (IPLab). The successful candidate will also actively participate in and assist with the direction of research efforts focused on the radiometric, geometric, and spatial characterization and calibration of satellite and airborne sensor systems, supported by various imaging optical research grants. Along with research, there will be a component of teaching and support of graduate-level courses in the Image Processing track of our program. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research while shaping the education of future experts in image processing. This position is located in , South Dakota. This is a 12 month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.
The IPLab actively works with state of the art on-orbit imaging sensors through funded research partnerships with NASA, USGS and with numerous commercial partners. The lab focuses its efforts on developing new and innovative methods of calibration and validation through ground field campaigns, in-situ instruments and a worldwide set of ground reference sites to address the evolving needs of new and upcoming space missions. Once these new methods are validated, they are then integrated into the operational evaluation of on-orbit sensors to implement routine characterization. As an Imaging Engineer, this position will be involved in supporting these activities and working with our partners in devising creative and new techniques for calibration and validation of radiometric optical imagery and applying them to operational sensors to validate or correct the data from these sensors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop course material and teach graduate level courses within the image processing track of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Program.
  • Provide direction withing the SDSU Image Processing Laboratory to research team leaders and general lab support for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Help develop and monitor service center budgets to ensure all grant related activities are accounted for by tracking field work and contractual obligations.
  • Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • PhD in Engineering, Physics, or a field closely related to remote sensing characterization and calibration using on-orbit techniques completed within 4 months of date of hire.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in radiometric sensor calibration
  • More than 3 years of related research experience
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Valid driver's license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
