Job Description





Focused on providing enrichment activities through organized clubs and recreational activities, this afterschool program is offered in partnership between Sara Holbrook Community Center (SHCC) and Burlington School District\xe2\x80\x99s (BSD) Office of Expanded Learning Opportunities. This position provides supervision, development, implementation and evaluation of the Hunt Afterschool Program, under the leadership of SHCC\xe2\x80\x99s Middle School & Teen Programs Director. The individual in this position is skilled at connecting with middle school aged youth, providing supervision to program staff and collaborating with community partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Positive Youth Development:
  • Coordinate and support the implementation of developmentally engaging activities and clubs for middle school-aged youth.
  • Create an engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging for youth.
  • Support students in making positive behavior choices by observing student behavior, assessing its appropriateness, and applying. appropriate behavior management techniques, positive redirection, or appropriate corrective action as necessary.
  • Coordinate with BSD administration with regard to more complicated student issues.
  • Promote healthy choices, prosocial behavior, and a growth mindset among students and staff.


Program Management:
  • Provide on-site program management, including oversight of daily operations.
  • Provide direct supervision for Hunt Afterschool Program staff and interns, including bi-weekly supervision meetings.
  • Assist in the onboarding and training of new interns and staff.
  • Actively engage with students, volunteers, staff, and parents.
  • Manage and support program registration.
  • Ensure that students are signing in and out of the program and maintain an accurate program roster daily.
  • Accurately complete and submit time cards, incident reports, attendance, receipts, and other program-related materials in accordance with SHCC and Expanded Learning Opportunities policy.
  • Report and document any and all injuries or incidents utilizing established SHCC and BSD procedures for notification to the Program Director, parents, and other appropriate parties.
  • Communicate and work effectively with other Coordinators on the team to support all Middle & Teen Programs as needed.
  • Adhere to all organizational site (SHCC and BSD) policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality in staff and student matters.
  • Maintain cleanliness in all program areas; assist with the setup and breakdown during program day to contribute to ongoing maintenance in an effort to keep the school or community site clean and orderly.
  • Provides support for the daily snack/meal program including serving, cleaning up, and maintaining accurate meal records for daily reporting.


Program Evaluation:
  • Complete Youth Program Quality Assessment (YPQA) evaluation on yearly basis.
  • Evaluates the program daily to suggest an improvement, needs, hazards and/or trends to Program Director for further evaluation.
  • Follows SHCC and BSD Evaluation plan as designed.


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Any additional duties related to the after-school program as assigned by the Program Director

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Education or training in education, human services, or related field
Experience:
  • Minimum of three years experience working with middle school-aged youth
  • Experience planning and implementing creative, positive, and healthy youth programming for middle schoolers, including knowledge of youth development principles
  • Experience providing leadership to a team of staff and/or interns

Skills & Requirements:
  • Ability to relate and form positive relationships with youth
  • Knowledge of current youth issues, concerns, and trends
  • Solid understanding of positive youth development, risk, and protective factors
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff, public & private sector officials, parents, and community leaders.
  • Commitment to social justice and openness to learn and grow in our practices with children, youth & families.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity with others.
  • Consistently demonstrate a positive attitude with youth, parents, and staff.

  • Ability to engage in physical activity with students, including the ability to stand, walk, sit, bend
  • Ability to lift, carry, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 20 pounds.


Salary

$41,600 - $43,680 per year
