Science | Service | Sustainability
The Recruitment Coordinator works closely with the Recruitment and Retention Director to assist with attracting, engaging, and supporting top talent who help drive SCDES's mission to protect South Carolina's environment and communities. This position supports our technical teams, engineers, scientists, and field staff who perform vital work across the state - from environmental protection to permitting, remediation, and public health initiatives.
The coordinator role supports a variety of recruitment, outreach, and onboarding efforts that strengthen SCDES's workforce. This includes coordinating job postings and hiring activities, coordinating internship and apprenticeship programs, attending career fairs and outreach events, and collaborating with colleges, technical schools, and Apprenticeship South Carolina. The role helps ensure every candidate and new hire experiences the professionalism, collaboration, and innovation that define SCDES.
Job Responsibilities
Job Posting, Hiring & Onboarding Support

  • Collaborate with hiring managers to understand position needs and requirements.
  • Draft clear, engaging job postings aligned with agency standards.
  • Communicate professionally with candidates and managers throughout the hiring process.
  • Assist hiring managers with screening best practices and interview scheduling using NeoGov and other tools.
  • Coordinate communication between Recruitment, HR Operations, Training & Development, and program areas to ensure a seamless onboarding and orientation experience for new hires.
Internships & Apprenticeship Support
  • Coordinate all logistics for internship and apprenticeship programs, including start and end dates, MOAs with universities, and outcome tracking.
  • Maintain regular communication with schools, universities, and technical colleges.
  • Support onboarding and "Day 1" welcome activities for program participants.
  • Assist with registering apprentices in RAPIDS and assist with program progression and reporting.
Career Fairs & Outreach Events
  • Coordinate and/or attend career fairs, expos, and hiring events on behalf of SCDES.
  • Manage event logistics, registrations, materials, setup, and follow-up action items.
  • Work with HR and program staff to ensure proper representation at recruitment events.
  • Maintain an event calendar and track event costs, participation, and outcomes.
Social Media & Job Posting Support
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Communications Liaison and Communications team to promote recruitment-related content across platforms such as LinkedIn, Indeed, and Handshake.
  • Support social media campaigns for job postings, internships, and employee engagement efforts.
  • A bachelor's degree and relevant experience.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel frequently in-state for events and meetings.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and transport recruitment materials (tables, chairs, carts, etc.) as needed.
  • Experience in human resources, outreach, marketing, or event planning.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, SharePoint, Calendar, Lists) and Adobe Pro.
  • Knowledge of state and federal recruitment laws and practices.
  • Experience with NeoGov or SAP SuccessFactors preferred.
  • Familiarity with LinkedIn, Handshake, and other social media recruitment tools.
  • Experience working with college career services or internship programs.
  • Working experience with SharePoint and M365 Utility Apps (Power BI, Power Pages, Visio, PowerAutomate)
