Job Description

Title: HS Night Custodian (3 PM - 11:30 PM) (Anticipated)


Reports To: Principal, Director of Maintenance, Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent


Employment Status: 12 month, (3 PM - 11:30 PM)


FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Qualifications:




1. High School diploma or equivalent.


2. Record of good attendance and strong work ethic.


3. Evidence of good moral character as established in section 3301-20-03 of the Ohio Administrative


Code.


4. Willingness to work with staff, students, and community members.


5. Prior related work experience required.


6. Willingness to participate in future training.


7. Ability to lift 50 lbs. numerous times.


8. Willingness to follow assigned work schedule.


9. Alternatives to the above qualifications that the Board of Education may find appropriate.


10. Knowledge of safety regulations and precautions for the work environment.

General Description:




Serves as a multi-task person to assist school personnel with the daily functions of the building


maintenance and general upkeep of the building per the work schedule. Performs general custodial


duties.

Essential Functions:




1. Performs required tasks such as sweeping, mopping, waxing floors, emptying and cleaning waste


and recycling containers, emptying pencil sharpeners, cleaning restrooms, unclogging toilets and


sinks using plunger or drain snake, refilling restroom supplies, cleaning windows and wall boards,


replacing damaged ceiling tiles, clean cobwebs, and dust or polish furniture as needed.


2. Regulates heating, cooling, and ventilation (where applicable) to provide appropriate temperature


settings. Calls HVAC technician for other needs.


3. Maintains the necessary supplies and equipment essential to perform custodial duties. Uses work


order system to request supplies or repairs.


4. Helps unload deliveries. Receives, checks, and stores supplies.


5. Maintains boiler room to be clean, safe, and free from clutter.


6. Removes snow, ice, and debris from walks, entryways, and around the perimeter of building. Salt


any walks that may need it for events.


7. Keeps building as neat and clean as possible at all times.


8. Helps to move furniture around as needed for various events. This includes but is not limited to:


desks, tables, risers, chairs, and bleachers.


9. Removes garbage in cafeteria.


10. Replaces light bulbs and tubes as needed. Report any issues through work order system.


11. Opens, closes and secures the building when needed.


12. Communicates with other custodians any special needs for the building and works as a team to


complete these tasks.


13. Carries out the tasks outlined in your building zone or job sheet.


14. Reports absences into online reporting system and to Director of Maintenance.


15. Accesses and responds to electronic communication (i.e., website, email, voice mail,etc.) daily.


16. Performs small repairs in the building if a maintenance worker is not required.


17. Pulls weeds around entrances when time is available. Pick up litter on grounds .


18. Uses Manager Plus or other work order system to report repair requests.


19. Checks boiler rooms daily and report if there are any issues.


20. Assists with locker jams or repairs.


21. Communicates as needed with all staff to ensure a team approach to problem solving.


22. Helps maintain safety and security in the buildings.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:




1. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens.


2. Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.


3. Responsible for clocking in and out each day.


4. Reports absence or change in shift into online reporting system


5. Remains compliant with district policies regarding alcohol and substance use/abuse. (example: PO


4122.01 and PO 4170)


6. Conducts all work in a safe and responsible manner.


7. Conducts other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance and the building principal.

Additional Working Conditions:




1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.


2. Occasional interaction among unruly children.


3. Regular requirement to reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, stoop and kneel.


4. Lift, carry, push, and pull various supplies and materials.


5. Walking in excess of 2-3 miles per day.


6. Repetitive hand motion (e.g. waxing, mopping).


7. Frequent climbing of stairs and ladders.


8. Exposure to high levels of noise (e.g. vacuum cleaner, power tools...).
