LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Hospital Admissions Technician 2.

There is a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $16.50 per hour for this title.

Salary offer depends upon qualifications.

Pre-employment Drug testing and Criminal Background check are required.

This position requires applicants to take a Civil Service test. If you have not taken the 8500-OSE (Office Support Exam) test and received a passing score, please contact Civil Service to take the test before applying.

This position will require selected applicant to be in a probationary status for at least 6 months.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of experience in which clerical work was a major duty, including one year of experience in interviewing, screening, or admitting patients to a health care facility.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Training in a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute will substitute for the required general experience on the basis of six months of training for six months of experience for a maximum of one year of the required general experience.

Completion of a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required general experience.

College training will substitute for the required general experience on the basis of 15 semester hours for six months of experience.

A baccalaureate degree in any field will substitute for all of the required experience.

NOTE:

Business or technical school training with less than completion will only be credited in six month increments. Similarly, college training will only be credited in 15 semester hour increments.

NOTE:

Experience working in a medical facility, such as a doctor\'s office, admitting patients for appointments is not considered qualifying for the specialized experience.

NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:
To prepare and maintain patent data in order to verify patients\' eligibility status during the hospital admissions process.

Level of Work:
Experienced.

Supervision Received:
General from a higher-level hospital admissions technician or other higher-level agency personnel.

Supervision Exercised:
None.

Location of Work:
LSU Health Care Services Division, Acute Care Hospitals, LSU Health Sciences Center, Medical Schools, Department of Health and Hospitals, and Human Services Districts.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from the Hospital Admissions Technician 1 by the presence of responsibility for independently performing assigned duties.

Differs from the Hospital Admissions Technician 3 by the absence of lead-worker responsibilities.

Examples of Work

Interviews patients in emergency rooms, clinics, and inpatient areas in order to obtain identifying and financial information and pertinent signatures.

Conducts in-depth interviews to complete and/or update information and eliminate discrepancies in patient data.

Verifies patient eligibility for hospital services by interpreting and applying complex Federal, State, and Hospital policies and procedure to accomplish admission.

Seeks confirmation of patient data via computer or by telephone and written communication to employers, insurance companies, social service institutions, etc.

Communicates hospital rules and regulations to patients; responds to inquiries from family, business and other individuals concerning patient\'s condition and location; relates availability of benefits provided to patients by various social service programs.

Identifies patient by obtaining a unique hospital number or assigning a number to new patients; places identifying bands on patients or in their close proximity.

Maintains statistical tallies of inpatient and outpatient admit/discharge transactions.

Completes forms for departmental productivity reports and hospital record keeping.

Screens patient charts during discharge to schedule and coordinate follow-up clinic appointments.

Notifies Patient Records Section of discharge and routes a record of services provided to Patient Billing Section.

Informs patient of the Advance Directives, both on the Inpatient Admission and the Outpatient screening.

Escorts patients to appropriate unit when necessary.
