Bellingrath Gardens and Home (BGH) is growing! We are in the process of repairing and replacing worn out infrastructure, adding brand new machinery to our fleet, restoring and reimagining hundreds of acres of picturesque land, and retrofitting our core gardens to showcase a world class living botanical collection.

We are seeking a hands-on leader with proven managerial experience. Proactive, clear, and consistent communication across the entire BGH Horticulture division, and well as with managers outside of Horticulture, is critical for success in this role. Anyone who can demonstrate managerial proficiency in communication, planning, scheduling and delegation of tasks will be strongly considered. The Landscape Gardens Manager is expected to perform outdoor work subject to climatic conditions typical to Mobile, Alabama.

? Oversee a discernable improvement in the appearance and condition of Bellingrath's 65 visitor-facing acres through operations including:

o Irrigation troubleshooting and repair

o Mowing and turf maintenance

o Vegetation management

o Landscape grading and construction

? Assist in planning and in implementing strategies to manage and rejuvenate Bellingrath's 835 peripheral acres, including forestry, invasive plant management, and the promotion of regionally native species

? Work alongside the Director of Horticulture, Assistant Director of Horticulture, Display Garden Manager, and Nursery Manger, to implement garden infrastructure, hardscape, and display bed improvement projects

? Competently supervise full-time front-line staff, interns, and volunteers

? Coordinating with Maintenance Manager, take the lead in executing basic maintenance of landscape-related machinery and hand tools while verifying that advanced maintenance and repair is being scheduled as needed

? Maintain a tidy, organized shop

? Perform routine inspections of grounds, documenting and diagnosing potential safety and aesthetic issues

? Order supplies and perform off-site material acquisitions as needed

? Foster a culture of safety, communication, and mindfulness

? Perform hand digging as needed

? Work closely with managers in other divisions to occasionally assist with staffing and setup of Bellingrath's seasonal events, and provide other assistance as directed

? Other duties as assigned

? Successful candidate must have a strong work ethic

? Proven managerial experience is strongly preferred

? Proven ability to work both independently and effectively as part of a team, or as team leader, is required

? Strong organizational skills are required

? Ability to regularly lift 50+ pounds unassisted is required

? Proficiency and innovation with landscape equipment and hand tools is preferred

? Horticulture degree or related degree is strongly preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience is required

? Proficiency in professional irrigation troubleshooting and repair is strongly preferred

? Willing and able to work outdoors in typical Mobile, AL climate

? Must possess a valid driver's license

? A consistent 40-hr per week attendance is required

? Basic knowledge of landscape plant identification and maintenance is required

? Must have or acquire an Alabama Private Applicator Permit within 6 months of hire

Pay: $19.00 - $24.00 per hour
