Job Responsibilities

• Operates backhoe in grading dirt shoulders, establishing positive drainage ditches and grading driveways. Ensures work area is dressed out and neat looking. Operates backhoe in laying pipe for driveway, crossing and sideline pipes.
• Acts as crew leader in a small crew making sure work is done according to procedures. Keeps a log of work completed, equipment used and time spent to enable foreman to complete daily work report. Assist other workers in proper procedures and train others as needed. Acts as assistant foreman in the absence of regular foreman. This includes keeping the crew busy and productive, keeping up with work performed, completing daily work reports and completing time sheets. Information is entered into the Highway Maintenance Management System (HMMS).
• Operates 8 yard and 5 yard dump truck with trailer to haul materials to and from job site. Ensure tarp is in place and that all loose material is removed from side of truck. Performs preventative maintenance on each piece of equipment daily, including checking the air, oil fluids and that all lights are working. Keeps record of the same. Assists other workers in proper procedures and train others as needed.
• Flags traffic to ensure safety of equipment, co-workers and the general public. Place traffic control devices according to the South Carolina Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices to warn motorists of road work ahead. Pick up debris and dead animals from roadway as needed.
• Works as required or as necessary during hazardous weather or other emergencies to ensure safety of the motoring public.

This Position is located at District One: Lexington Maintenance

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator\'s license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
