The Histotechnician/Histology Medical Lab Technician is responsible for performing all technical aspects of tissue evaluation.
Performs all technical aspects of tissue evaluation
+ Embeds, cuts, and stains all tissue in a timely manner
+ Performs special stains as directed by the pathologists
+ Performs frozen sections with the pathologists as directed
+ Sets up the tissue processor for processing of specimens
Maintains quality control as defined by established standards/practices of the histology department
+ Accountable for maintaining absolute identification of patient specimens during all aspects of processing
+ Responsible for preparing and staining microscopic sections from tissue blocks selected by the pathologist or grossing technologist
Education:
Associate's Degree; Medical Laboratory Technology or Histology, and one year training in a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) school of Histotechnology or five years of on the job training may be accepted in lieu of degree
