Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
This Highway Maintenance Superintendent position works in the office located in Dodge City, KS. This is management work with responsibility for the planning and administrative oversight of all highway maintenance and repairs for an assigned region. This position works with the Area Engineer to prioritize work and develop plans with maintenance supervisors, shop superintendents, contractors, and utility representatives.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Provides supervisory oversight of surface repairs, structure repairs, signing and marking, right-of-way, building, and grounds and other maintenance services by onsite inspection.
Programs, plans and monitors roadway, bridge and right-of-way maintenance activities through work needs program, budget and work accomplishment program.
Interprets regulations and advises petitioners regarding permit program and preparation; inspect the work during installation to assure compliance with permit & initiate completion notice upon satisfactory completion of work.
Prepares snow removal plan for area and works with Sub-Area Supervisors and district staff in coordinating equipment and personnel, scheduling equipment repairs, coordinating road closures and answering questions from the public as to road conditions, etc. during snow & ice control operations.
Meets and consults with citizens to discuss concerns related to the highway system and resolve or refer problems to higher authority.
Monitors installation and/or removal of outdoor advertising adjacent to right-of-way.
Provides training for supervisors, shop personnel, and area office personnel in planning and carrying out area wide maintenance programs.
Due to the nature of the work, this position may be required to work additional hours when needed, including nights and weekends.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Six years of experience in highway maintenance including two years of supervisory experience that meets the needs of the agency.
Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Transcripts are required for education to be considered.
Valid Driver's License at time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Solid computer skills including maintenance management and crew card computer systems experience.
Effective team leader experience.
Ability to plan and administer the work of a large staff.
Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written communication.
Post-Offer/Pre-employment Requirements:
This position is subject to pre-employment physical capacity testing. The selected candidate will be required to pass the screening as a condition of employment.
