Primary Purpose

Provide quality instruction at a correctional facility using appropriate learning strategies in reading, writing, and mathematics to support students in preparing for and earning the High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.



Position Duties


-------------------


Instruction:

Provide instruction to students enrolled in Adult Basic Education (ABE) and High School Equivalency (HSE) programs

Delivery:

Deliver instructional services within Department of Adult Correction facilities, including Neuse Correction Institution and the DART Center

Support:

Support adult learners in establishing and achieving short- and long-term educational goals

Curriculum:

Develop, implement, and maintain curriculum aligned with Adult Education standards and program requirements

Assessment:

Monitor and assess student progress to ensure satisfactory academic performance and goal attainment

Data:

Utilize assessment data to inform instruction and document learner outcomes

Records:

Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including registrations, rosters, attendance, test data, LEIS forms, and other required documentation

Reporting:

Meet all recordkeeping and reporting deadlines as established by the supervisor or program director

Engagement:

Attend and actively participate in college, divisional, and departmental meetings and special projects

Commitment:

Demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to TPCC departmental missions and goals

Development:

Complete required professional development activities, including the North Carolina Basic Skills online orientation, within six months of employment

Credentials:

Earn the North Carolina Basic Skills Instructor Core Credential and/or Secondary Credential within two years of employment

Flexibility:

Perform additional duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and TPCC director

Compliance:

Comply with all procedures, policies, and regulations adopted by TPCC and Wayne Community College

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution; degree in Education preferred Must obtain the North Carolina Basic Skills Instructor Core Credential and/or North Carolina Basic Skills Instructor Secondary Credential within two (2) years of hire, in accordance with NCCCS requirements Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other instructional and data management technologies Teaching experience in Adult High School, High School Equivalency (HSE), Adult Basic Education, Pre-Curriculum, middle school, or high school preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently as a self-starter and collaboratively as a team member Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills Valid North Carolina Driver's License required Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
