Job Description

The Maintenance A-class/Helper A role is a full-time position with the primary responsibility of general property level and building system maintenance and cleaning for one property located in the heart of Chicago's South Loop neighborhood.

The primary goal of Helper A is to help deliver exceptional living experiences to community residents by maintaining the premises, common areas, recreational facilities, and grounds, via the essential functions as outlined below.

This position reports to the Property Manager and Chief Engineer and works directly with onsite team members to ensure the success of the property's overall performance.

Position requires ability to transverse the property on foot, climb, lift up to 35 pounds, work on a ladder or elevated platform, and use cleaning supplies. Must be able to communicate, orally and in writing, with residential tenants, supervisors and co-workers.

Typical schedule will be Tuesday-Saturday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, but may require occasional flexibility to work weekends and non-routine work hours in the event of urgent situations.



Your Mission



Assist with maintenance of the property such as mowing, exterior painting, basic carpentry and fixing damages. Oversee general maintenance tasks (i.e. battery and light bulb replacement, window cleaning), repairs, improvement and renovations Provide necessary upkeep to ensure appearance of the buildings and grounds are up to management and resident standards Monitor and inspect buildings and grounds daily, reporting any needed repairs/replacements, and noting any unusual or extraordinary circumstances regarding the property and/or residents to Management Respond to employee and resident requests in a courteous and timely manner. Obtain through knowledge of management company policies and property community policies. Perform duties according to Occupations Safety & the Health Act (OSHA) standards and company safety policies at all times. Perform necessary plumbing, HVAC work, and electrical repairs on items such as appliances, fixtures, switches, outlets, circuits, etc. Remove and transfers heavy appliances and equipment from storage area to apartment as needed. Clean common areas which may include lobby, fitness center, restrooms, break room, etc. Performs all other job-related duties and assignments as required.

TRAINING:

Previous experience and training is required. All Class A maintenance people must already completed the training for Class C through SEIU Local 1, and then have, or enroll to get, the Building Repairer's Journeyman's Card (the apprenticeship program is 2 years) within 60 days of employment.
