Job purpose




The Heavy Civil Estimating Intern will support the preconstruction and business development teams by assisting with the review of project plans, specifications, and requirements for heavy civil projects including structures, roadway, concrete paving, grading, and drainage. Under the guidance of senior estimators and engineers, the intern will learn the fundamentals of quantity takeoffs, cost estimating, and construction means and methods for DOT, municipal, government, aviation, and railroad projects. This role provides hands-on exposure to the estimating process and offers practical experience within a heavy civil contractor environment.

Duties and responsibilities



Assist in reviewing project plans, specifications, and bid documents. Support senior estimators with quantity takeoffs for earthwork, concrete, structures, and other heavy civil items. Help gather and organize material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing. Assist in preparing bid packages and distributing solicitation documents to subcontractors and suppliers. Participate in reviewing subcontractor and supplier quotes under supervision. Help compile cost estimates and organize estimate documentation. Support development of proposal materials and project summaries. Attend pre bid meetings and site visits as appropriate. Learn the use of estimating and construction software including HCSS, Bluebeam, and other company tools. Assist with maintaining estimating files, historical cost data, and other project records. Participate in internal estimating meetings and observe discussions on project risks and pursuit strategies. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications



Current student pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Interest in heavy civil construction including structures, roadway, paving, grading, and drainage. Basic understanding of engineering or construction concepts is helpful but not required. Strong computer skills including MS Office. Experience with Bluebeam, HCSS, or AGTEK is a plus but not required. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently with guidance and in a team environment. Effective communication skills. Valid driver's license and ability to pass background checks for secure facilities including airports, railroads, and military bases.

Working conditions




Primarily office based with occasional travel to jobsites or meetings as appropriate. Internship is based in our St. Charles, Missouri office.
