MSAD 6 is seeking a Health Services Assistant to join its nursing and instructional staff at Bonny Eagle Middle School.
Wages as determined by the Bargaining Agreement
Health Assistant: $18.45 - $24.13
LPN: $21.42 - $25.57

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Current licensure/certification as a medical assistant or nurse assistant or LPN is desirable.
2. Criminal history record check (CHRC) as required by the Maine Department of Education.
3. Current certification in First Aid and CPR/AED.
4. Pediatric and adolescent experience is desirable.
5. Prior successful work record with evidence of a positive work ethic.
6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team, including working with a
wide variety of adults and students.
7. Added experience which includes public health care and/or school health care is desirable.
8. Knowledge of:

  • Health care methods and practices, within their scope of practice.
  • Pediatric and adolescent health conditions.
  • Basic concepts of child growth and development and developmental behavior
characteristics of students in grades preschool through age 21, including students
with special needs.
  • Record managements systems and procedures.
9. Ability to:
  • Create a caring health clinic climate to meet student health needs and facilitate return
to class.
  • Assist students in effectively dealing with health issues.
  • Work collaboratively and under the direction of the school nurse (RN) and colleagues in
resolving health concerns.
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Carry out data entry utilizing student data information system.
  • Provide administrative support to ensure a smoothing functioning health office.
JOB GOAL:
Under the direction of the school nurse (RN), the Health Services Assistant will provide health care
services to the students in MSAD 6. This position recognizes and meets basic student needs in
routine health care situations; assists the registered nurse in the delivery of school health programs;
implements care as directed by the registered nurse; functions as an assistant to the registered nurse;
participates in evaluation of care; follows student health plans; and performs other related functions
as directed by the registered nurse.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Deliver and follow daily student health care, including medication and treatment
administration, with registered nurse direction, education, and consultation (including
medications for those students with life-threatening allergies, asthma, or other serious
conditions as well as emergency preparedness for seizure and diabetic medication
administration).
2. Comply with all applicable District policies, procedures, and health services practices.
3. Provide direct health care to medically fragile or nursing-dependent students as directed by
the registered nurse.
4. Communicate with instructional staff in the delivery of the instructional program.
5. Monitor students in a variety of settings (e.g., classroom, transportation, field trips) for the
purpose of providing care as defined by student health plans and assessment of student
needs as directed by the registered nurse.
6. Implement student health care plans and emergency care plans as directed by the registered
nurse.
7. Participate in ongoing communication with the registered nurse regarding student health
issues.
8. Assist in the monitoring of individual student health goals.
9. Assist with maintaining program continuity in daily student routines of learning, eating,
grooming, and toileting, and promote self-care skills of students.
10. Be knowledgeable of emergency procedures and communicable disease concerns.
11. Report outcomes of care, including delegated tasks, to the a) supervising registered
nurse; b) building administration; and c) other designated personnel.
12. With registered nurse direction, conduct vision and hearing screenings and ensure
immunization compliance.
13. As a mandatory reporter, provide support in identifying and reporting suspected cases of
abuse/neglect.
14. Participate in health-promoting prevention/intervention efforts.
15. Assist the registered nurse with student health screenings and the detection and follow up of
pediculosis (head lice).
16. Maintain accurate and current records pertaining to student health office visits,
medication and treatment administration, immunizations, screening results, and
injury reports. Complete State-mandated and other reports as directed by the registered
nurse.
17. Support behavior intervention plans for students as indicated in IEPs. Coordinate 504
meetings and support section 504 plans for students.
18. Inventory, order, and maintain adequate health clinic supplies to include all forms used by
the health services office and carry out all other office duties as directed by the registered
nurse.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This position requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time, walking for short distances,
and running on occasion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required
to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk or hear.
The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently must
squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee must have the ability
to move about between district locations and/or inside/outside the vehicle. The employee must have
a valid drivers\xe2\x80\x99 license, reliable transportation, and vehicle insurance. The employee must have the
ability to effectively communicate accurate information to staff and community members. Specific
vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth
perception. Some lifting of students, up to 50 pounds, may be required on occasion. Reasonable

of the job.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee
encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be

work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee
regularly works indoors. Occasionally, yet essential to this position, the individual must meet
deadlines with severe time constraints while interacting with the public.
WORK YEAR:
Student school year with two (2) additional professional development days and five (5) additional
health office administrative days.
