The Newborn Screening Hearing Follow-Up Supervisor serves as a Health Program Manager III and is responsible for work of considerable difficulty in planning, implementing, and administering statewide newborn hearing screening follow-up activities. This position plays a critical role in ensuring timely and effective follow-up for newborns and infants who do not pass or do not receive a newborn hearing screening directly impacting public health outcomes, agency operations, and financial stewardship.



As a newborn hearing screening manager, this role is distinguished by its broad scope and complexity, requiring mastery of technical program guidelines, regulatory frameworks, and independent decision-making. The supervisor leads a team of professional follow-up personnel, overseeing daily work, setting performance standards, and ensuring compliance with state and federal mandates.



Job Duties:


Supervises the statewide newborn screening hearing follow-up team, ensuring timely communication and coordination with healthcare provider, audiologists, early intervention programs, family support programs and families.




Provide training, guidance, mentoring and performance evaluations to follow up team.



Develop, edit, and implement standard work protocols to ensure consistency and quality in follow-up procedures.



Monitor staff productivity and program metrics to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency.



Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements to enhance outcomes (Continuous Quality Improvement).



Provide timely and effective follow-up for missed, refused or referred newborn hearing screening results, assisting with difficult and emergency cases as needed.



Conduct regular staff meetings/huddles and one-on-one check-ins to support team development.



Provide assistance to the Newborn Screening Education team as needed.



Other duties as assigned as related to the position.



Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):


Knowledge of:



principles and practices of newborn hearing screening, audiology and early intervention


Follow-up protocols and procedures for congenital conditions identified through newborn screening


effective case management procedures, medical terminology audiological terminology and genetics


Database management and record keeping


audiological testing procedures, test results and implications.


Quality assurance principles and practices


Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies


Skills in:

At least two years of relevant case management or follow-up work experience. A Bachelor's degree in a health science, speech and hearing or health related field is required and may substitute for one year of experience. Masters degree preferred.

Retirement:


To help you build a financially secure future, the State makes monthly contributions to finance your retirement benefit. The State will contribute to the ASRS in an amount equal to your contribution.
