Specific job details: Provide daily maintenance of radiation safety duties and support to the Radiation Safety Officer and Radiation Safety Program. Primarily responsible for radiation worker dosimetry systems to include monthly and annual dose review, monthly interactions with dosimetry coordinator, and fulfilling dosimeter requests. Work with team members to investigation exposure that are over ALARA limits. Assist with preparation of AZDHS BRC Licenses and Registrations and semi-annual auditing of radiation use departments. Provide radiation safety oversight, direction, and emergency response to therapies and procedures that use radioactive materials. Assist the Radiation Safety Officer with required committee duties which can include preview research protocols, assist with authorized users, and other regulatory duties as required. Perform inventory of sealed sources and instruments and assist with wipes and/or calibration. Assist with shipping/handling/receiving of radioactive materials. Perform annual inspection of radiation protective equipment and maintain active inventory. Develop new training as needed using research and resources to ensure updated regulations are communicated to team members.

Day in the life: This position requires daily flexibility, as needs change daily and the candidate needs to the ability to triage and prioritize responsibilities with an emphasis on team and patient safety and regulatory compliance, with the guidance and support of the Radiation Safety Officer. Answer any radiation safety questions or requests as needed. Process dosimeter requests. Prepare for any radioactive materials therapies and attend therapy to provide oversight. Survey and inventory waste from Nuclear Medicine or therapies. Perform dose investigations. Perform walking audits and provide oversight to radiation areas. Inspect lead aprons. Review monthly and quarterly reports and work with Radiation Safety Officer to determine discrepancies. Check-in with radiation departments to ensure needs are met. Provide training or communicate regulatory requirements and inform on radiation safety precautions/reasoning.

Number of staff working alongside prospective team member: 1

Number of patients seen daily: No direct patient care. Involvement in up to 10 therapies per week for patient treatment. Duties may require patient surveys after administration of radioactive materials.

Types of procedures ect: Y-90 Radioembolization, LutaThera, Pluvicto PSMA therapy, I-131 Thyroid Ablation.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position provides technical, clerical and operational support to the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for Tucson in the development, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the radiation safety program for all of Tucson.

CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Maintains management of the personnel radiation dosimetry program to include dose assessments, investigations, interaction with service provider, and preparation of annual dose summaries and reports for oversight committees.

2. Ensures that required clinical licenses and registrations with regulatory agencies are maintained. Interacts with regulatory agencies, as necessary. Ensures commitments made to regulatory agencies are implemented.

3. Prepares agenda and meeting minutes for the Medical Radiation Safety Committee. Prepares applications for authorized users and physicists.

4. Develops and coordinates required radiation safety in-service training to radiation workers.

5. Manages the radiation inventory and waste disposal program to include incoming shipments, waste processing and disposal of decayed radioactive waste.

6. Performs leak tests of radioactive sources including documented inventory.

7. Maintains the radiation survey instrument calibration program. Participles in medical physics evaluation of radiation generating equipment.

8. Coordinates emergency response services and responds to emergencies involving radioactive spills, loss of control of material or machines, and suspected or accidental radiation exposure.

9. This position works under supervision, prioritizing work tasks from multiple sources to provide quality care and support. Incumbents work in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment with a strong focus on customer service. Incumbent works with the both internal and external customers. Internal customers: All levels of radiation oncology, medical imaging and nursing management and staff, medical staff, and all other members of the interdisciplinary health care team. External Customers: regulatory and health agencies, patients and family members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor\'s degree or equivalent education; or a Clinical based Radiation Certification and three years of related experience in Medical/Health Physics is required.

Two years of clinical experience in a hospital-based radiation field. Familiar with hospital practices in patient care and procedure environment. Experience in performing quality assurance calibrations on diagnostic radiographic equipment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in radiation safety requirements for a broad scope medical radioactive material license. DOT shippers\xe2\x80\x99 certification for radioactive materials. Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in regulatory field to include human subject\xe2\x80\x99s protocols and requirements. Familiar with Joint Commission training and reporting requirements.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
