Do you have experience working with outside entities to accomplish a common goal? The Utah Department of Health needs you as a Newborn Screening Health Informaticist!
In this role, you will assist the Newborn Screening (NBS) Informatics team with the development, implementation, monitoring, and interoperability of systems aiding the newborn screening process and healthcare follow-up. You will aid in the coordination of the system work performed by partner healthcare organizations by facilitating meetings, writing progress reports, and ensuring system projects move forward on time and on budget.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate with vendors to develop, test and implement an electronic ordering and result messaging system between the Utah Newborn Screening program and healthcare partners
Coordinate the integration of the electronic messaging system with hospital and healthcare providers across the state of Utah
Coordinate the development of a web portal for NBS registration and result reporting.
Support the lab information management system (LIMS) and other periphery software.
Test vendor-provided systems.
Implement vendor provided system improvements after user acceptance testing.
Work across departments and external organizations to complete tasks and coordinate efforts pertaining to NBS informatics projects
Adapt automated system(s) to accommodate special and complex agency needs; design or enhance Newborn Screening Information systems to interface with existing systems as needed.
Anticipate the impact that new or modified software will have on existing standards and systems.
Identify problems or potential problem areas and prepare recommendations and solutions
Select testing methods to evaluate the success of both software upgrades and modifications
Facilitate/Chair workgroups, teams, and/or meetings by creating a positive environment, evaluating group processes, recommending solutions or alternatives
Audit and review systems and practices to ensure compliance with established procedures, regulations and standards.
Review and/or inspect work for quality, accuracy, and completeness.
Recommend computer system enhancements to better meet user needs.
Monitor system performance to ensure proper operation and identify possible problem areas.
Minimum Qualifications:
Strong skills in informatics and data analysis.
Experience working with data integration and interface projects.
Experience in healthcare IT standards (e.g. HL7).
Experience with system management.
Experience analyzing key performance indicators.
Experience with healthcare data.
Schedule:
This position is currently a hybrid of both in-office and remote work days. Please note, a position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.
This position is a time limited position (Schedule TL) that may convert to career service (Schedule B) in the future.
The Agency:
The Utah Public Health Laboratory (UPHL) manages laboratory testing through the entire state of Utah. This includes testing and monitoring infectious diseases, managing newborn screenings for chronic diseases, testing and monitoring environmental diseases, managing drug and alcohol blood tests, and managing clinical and environmental laboratory certification programs. UPHL strives to serve its customers and stakeholders with accurate data as quickly as possible.

This position is currently funded until 2028.
