Join Our Team at John C. Murphy Health Clinic! Are you a detail-oriented and driven public health professional with a passion for public service? St. Louis County Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking to hire four (4) Health Education Coordinators to fill vital roles promoting and creating educational opportunities within St. Louis County to address multiple ongoing health epidemics, ranging from Substance Use to Violence to Obesity to Chronic Disease to Maternal/Child Health and emerging health issues. Filling these roles will allow DPH to continue assuming the lead within the region relative to public health issues and better position the County's response to emerging and continually evolving public health crises.
The Health Education Coordinator position will lead, coordinate, and support initiatives and projects in the Division of Health Promotion and Public Health Research, for the St. Louis County Department of Public Health. This position is responsible for the development, planning, implementation, and delivery of outcomes-based programs and interventions. The Health Educator will also support education and communication efforts to multiple established and emerging public health initiatives ranging from (but not limited to) preventing, building awareness, and implementing harm reduction models as it pertains to substance use, violence prevention, chronic disease, maternal/child health, youth engagement, community engagement and other emerging public health topics highlighted within the community health improvement plan.

Examples of Duties

• Assess individual and community needs for health education and promotion.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate health education programs and promotions.
• Create Public Health educational materials to support the assigned programming.
• Establish community partnerships in order to collaborate in health issues and initiatives.
• Provide direction or solve health-related problems within the community as a consultant.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in health education or other degree with 30 hours of health education / health promotion
• At least two years of related work experience
• Preference may be given to applicants with:

• A master's degree in public health or beyond
• CHES or higher certification
• Public sector experience
• Community engagement experience
• Public speaking experience
• Other health/community messaging experience

Additional Information
SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.
The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job-related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.
The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.
All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County. Additionally, new employees will have 30 calendar days, after their first day of employment, to attest to their COVID-19 vaccination status. Instructions on how to submit this attestation will be provided once employment has begun. County employees are not required to be fully vaccinated, but those who are not fully vaccinated must submit to weekly COVID-19 testing until they are fully vaccinated or St. Louis County geographically reaches a 70% vaccination rate and a moderate transmission level of COVID-19 as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

St. Louis County offers its employees many excellent benefits with paid medical insurance, 20 days of PTO (paid time off) the first year and increasing with seniority, and 11-12 paid holidays. Employees hired for full time employment will participate in the St. Louis County retirement plan where they contribute 4% of their salary to the defined benefit plan with vesting after 7 years.
