We're seeking a
Head of Finance / Controller
who will lead our finance function and HR administration.
This is a full-time based at our facility in St. Michael, MN.
The days and hours of work are flexible, and we can work with you to find a schedule that fits your needs.

The position is in-office, at our facility in St Michael, MN - remote work isn't available for this position.

Who we're looking for
An experienced controller or finance leader - comfortable owning the numbers in a small business
Process-minded - you like to build checklists, templates, and better ways of working, not just keep things going
Organized and reliable - you keep track of deadlines, keep files in order, and follow through
Strong in accounting and spreadsheets - you can dig into financials, analyze costs, and explain what's going on, and you know how to use XLOOKUP and SUMIFS
Comfortable with HR administration - onboarding/offboarding, benefits administration, and other HR logistics
Hands-on and comfortable wearing multiple hats - finance, tax, payroll, HR admin, and the occasional one-off issue

Key Responsibilities
Leadership
Lead and manage finance team (currently 1 full-time bookkeeper)
Participate in EOS L10 leadership team meetings, identify and solve finance-related issues
Understand and communicate departmental priorities
Work closely with other leaders (operations, marketing, etc.) to support their decisions with data
Finance & Accounting
Own the monthly close process and produce accurate, timely financial statements
Review and oversee day-to-day work done by our in house bookkeeper, including general accounting, A/P, and A/R
Ensure proper inventory and COGS accounting in a complex company with a large number of products
Maintain a clean, logical chart of accounts and general ledger
Tax, Compliance & Insurance
Coordinate with our tax accountants and provide needed data for filings and planning
Manage state and federal tax accounts (sales tax, payroll tax, unemployment, etc.)
Handle communication with tax authorities to resolve issues as they arise
Work with our insurance providers on renewals, audits, and coverage reviews
Payroll & HR Administration
Oversee the payroll process to ensure accurate and timely pay (US employees and contractors)
Administer benefits (health, dental, HSA, 401k) in coordination with our providers
Own HR admin tasks such as onboarding/offboarding checklists, employee paperwork, and maintaining employee records
Coordinate other HR-related processes as needed
Cost Control & Analysis
Analyze inventory, freight, insurance, and other major categories, and highlight opportunities to improve
Support pricing reviews and forecasting with clear, practical analysis
Provide straightforward financial insights to the owner and leadership team
Process, Systems & Automation
Create and maintain SOPs, checklists, and templates for key finance and HR processes
Partner with our development team to improve and automate finance workflows
Keep finance and HR files and folders organized and easy to navigate
Experience and Skills we're looking for
5+ years of accounting/finance experience, including time in a controller or related role
Strong knowledge of QuickBooks Online
Experience working with inventory management or ERP systems
Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills (lookups, SUMIFS, pivots, modeling)
Track record of creating and improving processes
Experience with HR administration (onboarding/offboarding, benefits, HR paperwork)
Strongly preferred - Experience with ecommerce or other inventory accounting
Strongly preferred - Experience with sales tax tools (e.g., TaxJar)
Familiarity with EOS is a plus
Interest in or knowledge of the firearms industry is a big plus

Pay: $80,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
