We are seeking a motivated and skilled HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) Drill Operator to join our dynamic construction team. In this role, you will operate heavy drilling equipment to install underground utilities, pipelines, and cables with precision and safety. Your expertise in heavy equipment operation, mechanical knowledge, and construction site experience will be essential to ensure efficient project execution. Responsibilities
Operate horizontal drilling rigs and associated heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, and tankers to perform underground utility installations.
Read and interpret bore profiles, utility prints, and job plans
Maintain proper bore alignment, depth, and pitch
Communicate clearly with the locator/steering technician
Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance.
Coordinate with team members to set up work sites, including site preparation and ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
Monitor drilling progress, troubleshoot issues promptly, and adjust operations to meet project deadlines efficiently.
Maintain detailed records of drilling activities, equipment usage, and safety checks for project documentation.
Identify underground utilities and assist with damage prevention
Troubleshoot drilling issues related to soil conditions, tooling, or equipment
Maintain clean and organized job sites
Complete required job documentation and reports
Experience
2+ years experience operating horizontal directional drilling (HDD) machinery in construction or utility installation projects.
Strong understanding of underground utility construction.
Ability to read utility maps, bore logs, and construction drawings
Knowledge of safe digging practices and 811 requirements
Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Willingness to travel if required.
Strong mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, tankers, and other construction machinery.
Valid driver's license (CLD is a plus) with experience driving large construction vehicles including excavators and dump trucks.
Familiarity with construction site safety procedures and OSHA regulations.
Knowledge of excavation techniques related to horizontal drilling and underground utility installation.

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 - 55 per week
