The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is seeking candidates that have a passion for providing exceptional customer service and a commitment to serving others. This Maintenance Worker position will focus on providing exceptional experiences for our park patrons by serving as a member of the Pullen Park Maintenance Unit.

Pullen Park is a fun and fast paced environment with over one million visitors per year. It is the first public park in North Carolina established in 1887 and the 5th oldest operating amusement park in the United States. Sitting on more than 66 rolling acres Pullen Park is comprised of several historic and popular destination sites. These include the amusements area and 1900 Dentzel carousel, playground, Lake Howell, Pullen Aquatic Center and Pullen Community Center on the South side. On the North side near the NC State Bell Tower is the Pullen Arts Center, Theatre in the Park and The NCSU Gregg Museum. The Raleigh Rose Garden boasts over 1200 roses and 60 varieties with hybrid teas, floribundas, grandifloras, miniatures and antiques. It is a popular site for weddings and shares the property with the Raleigh Little Theatre and outdoor amphitheater.

This position is devoted to providing repair, maintenance and equipment operation in the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department Parks Division. Incumbents provide unskilled or semi-skilled general maintenance based on assignment or maintenance function. Work may include, but is not limited to, operating snow removal equipment on parking lots and sidewalks; performing maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and parts; maintaining cleanliness of work area, tools and equipment; and following safety policies and procedures.
Depending on department, must have the ability to operate standard grounds maintenance equipment, "Bobcat" loader, power tools, dump truck. May be required to be on-call on a rotating basis.

Typical schedule for this position will be Monday thru Friday - 6:00am - 2:30pm during the spring/summer/fall months. 7:00am - 3:30pm the remainder of the year. Some weekend work may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform unskilled or semi-skilled general maintenance in support of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department; select proper maintenance tools and equipment for tasks; perform work following established safety policies and procedures and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Monitor basic grounds repair and/or maintenance needs; perform unskilled or semiskilled preventative maintenance, cleaning and/or repairs; remove and haul debris and/or refuse; maintain grounds and landscape.
  • Inspect and maintain tools and equipment by changing out worn or damaged parts, monitoring safe operational use, and/or cleaning equipment; identify and document required repairs.
  • Respond to customer requests and address issues or maintenance needs.
  • Maintain activity logs, records, work orders and related reports.
  • Provide upkeep of facility grounds by mowing, weed-eating, bush-hogging and spotting for certified spray technicians.
  • Assist with irrigation maintenance and repairs pruning, mulching, aerating and over seeding; Assist with irrigation repairs
  • Painting and replacing boards, signs and benches.
Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED and one year of maintenance or customer service experience related to assignment.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing/Certifications
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver\'s License with a satisfactory driving record or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
