JOB FUNCTION: Supports grocery store operations by maintaining a clean work environment and organized food displays. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Greet all customers, respond to customer questions/requests and explain store policies in a courteous and professional manner. Thank the customer upon departure.
  • Place groceries in bags in a way that prevents breakage of bag or product while maximizing the number of products that can fit in the bag. Place bags in cart.
  • Push carts containing groceries to customer\xe2\x80\x99s vehicle or hand-carries them.
  • Unload bags from cart and place them in customer\xe2\x80\x99s vehicle according to customer\xe2\x80\x99s wishes.
  • Collect carts from parking lot and returns them to store; park carts and remove trash and debris.
  • Replenish supply of bags at checkout counter.
  • Support other grocery store personnel such as cashiers to help with the checkout process
  • Clean and sanitize department floors, lanes, checkout stand, carts, restrooms, shelves and parking lot. Safely use cleaning equipment and chemicals.
  • Load stocking carts/pallets, transport cases/product to sales floor/ cooler/freezer/product preparation area either on stocking carts or pallets, match the case strip to the shelf/case tag/stock, open cases, place merchandise in the designated cooler/freezer/case/shelf/display position/area, check the product code/freshness date and "face/front"/rotate each product on cooler/freezer/case/shelf/display.
  • If product is found in the wrong place, return product to its appropriate place on cooler/freezer/case/shelf/display.
  • Always operate equipment with all safeguards in place and in good operating condition; observe the safe method of performing all duties; use and maintain all equipment in good condition.
  • Assure the safety of self, customers and co-workers by understanding and practicing store safety rules and notifying a supervisor of any potential hazard immediately. Pick up/remove all trash/boxes/packing materials from the sales floor or product preparation area immediately.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisors and managers, substituting for absent workers and performing any additional tasks necessary to provide products and services to customers during peak periods of business.
  • Count and record individual items of merchandise for inventory.
  • Evaluate product quality and move damaged/unsalable and "returnable" products from the shelf/case to the backroom for re-processing into a saleable form or marking the product down in price.
  • Use the proper case opening and product stacking techniques to prevent damage to product.
  • Remove trash from the aisle or product preparation area and operate the baler (unless under 18).
  • Change signs, light bulbs, and signs/tags on the case/shelf display.
  • Communicate with the department manager on problems, recommendation for change and merchandising ideas.
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. Ability to work overtime (including more than 10 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week, or 5 days in a row).
  • Record "out-of-stock" conditions and the time they occur, report to the department manager.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as directed;

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Greet all customers, ask the customer if they found everything they needed, respond to customer questions/requests, and explain store policies in a courteous and professional manner. Thank the customer upon departure.
  • If working at a Hays location, ask the customer if they have a rewards card. If not, ask the customer if they would like a rewards card and sign them up with the appropriate paperwork.
  • Process customer purchases quickly and accurately.
  • Understand the operation, safety requirements and restraints of an electronic cash register, scanner, scale, credit card reader and intercom system.
  • Prevent loss of money and merchandise through careful product handling, completion of price checks or not-on-file or mis-marked items, correct identification of produce, counting of money, and accurately using store procedures for the acceptance of coupons, checks, credit/debit cards, SNAP benefits, WIC, and gift cards.

  • Resolve customer complaints, guide them and provide relevant information
  • Clean and sanitize department floors, lanes, checkout stand, carts, restrooms, shelves and parking lot. Safely use cleaning equipment and chemicals.
