Grant Writer \xe2\x80\x93 Description of Role CodeSquad (www.codesquad.org) is seeking a part-time Grant Writer to support its mission to train adults from Boston\xe2\x80\x99s low-income communities of color and help them launch new careers. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Grant Writer will be responsible for identifying grant opportunities, drafting and editing proposals, communicating with funders, and timely submissions of applications and required reports. Note: This is a predominantly remote position. However, in-person meetings may be required, approximately twice per year. About us CodeSquad provides a free, 22-week learn-to-code bootcamp, designed specifically for applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds. After graduation, we work with participants to connect them to full-time software jobs and internships in Greater Boston. An average of sixty percent of CodeSquad graduates have found career success in the software field, with many now earning more than $90,000 per year. Job Responsibilities Specific responsibilities for this position include:
  • Research and identify funding opportunities from private foundations, corporate charities, and relevant state and federal government funders
  • Track due dates and provide visibility to senior staff on deadlines and status of proposals; maintain the CodeSquad Grants Calendar
  • Draft, edit and submit proposals in collaboration with senior staff
  • Attend weekly scheduled senior staff meetings
  • Maintain positive, professional and proactive communication with staff and funder representatives, to build relationships and comply with grant requirements
  • Work with staff to ensure that compliance and performance are tracked against proposal goals
  • Ensure timely submission of applications and required reports
  • Write and coordinate the CodeSquad Newsletter (quarterly email update to supporters & friends)
Qualifications
  • 2-3 years of relevant writing experience
  • A history of successful grant submissions preferred
  • Experience in fundraising, communications or a related field preferred
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree preferred
  • Compensation is at a competitive hourly rate, based on experience
