The Organization IFDC is an independent non-profit organization that combines innovative research, market systems development, and strategic partnerships to identify and scale sustainable soil solutions for improved food security and livelihoods around the world.
The Global Human Resources Manager (GHRM) assumes a strategic and leadership role in the overall management of IFDC\xe2\x80\x99s HR policies, procedures, compliance, and programs. The GHRM manages the HR department and global HR team and will have day-to-day responsibility for the institutional HR function including recruitment, organizational planning and development, employee orientation, employee capacity development and training, employee relations and helpdesk, compensation, benefits, safety and health, employee services, and corporate succession planning. The GHRM originates HR practices and objectives that will provide a balanced HR function throughout all divisions. Reporting to the Corporate Services Vice President and member of the Corporate Services Management Team (CSMT) and standing Committee member of Committee for Safety, Security and Crisis (CSSC) Duties may involve:
  • Formulating advice, recommending, guiding senior management related to all HR function, policies, procedures and objectives for all of IFDC.
  • Recommending new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in the HR function within IFDC and the efficiency of department and services performed.
  • Establishing and enforcing standard recruiting and placement practices and procedures including selection and implementation of software and hardware systems necessary for HR to function effectively and efficiently across all divisions. Overseeing the HR support function within the Business Development process in close collaboration with the VP Business Development and BD taskforce.
  • Directing the process of organizational planning that evaluates structure, job design, and manpower forecasting throughout IFDC. Coordinating HR activities across division lines; evaluating HR plans and changes to plans; making recommendations to senior management concerning talent management.
  • Maintaining personnel data in accordance with IFDC\'s policies and procedures (e.g., keeping updated on state and federal guidelines and ensuring compliance on such matters as withholdings, visas, benefits; assisting in developing and keeping personnel informed of new policies and procedures; processing and coordinating changes to employee records).
  • Determining and recommending employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship.
  • Establishing uniform wage and salary structure, pay policies, performance appraisal programs, employee benefit programs and services, and IFDC safety and health programs, monitoring the effectiveness and cost containments of these programs and policies.
  • Directing the process of organizational and employee development that primarily addresses succession planning throughout IFDC.
  • Establishing in-house capacity development and management training programs that address IFDC needs across division lines. Providing necessary education materials to line management and employees\xe2\x80\x94workshops, manuals, employee handbooks and other appropriate reports.
  • Conducting a continuous study of all HR policies, programs, and practices to keep top management informed of new developments.
  • Directing the preparation and maintenance of reports as are necessary to carry out functions of the department. Preparing periodic reports to senior management as necessary or requested.
  • Keeping the Vice President and President and CEO informed of significant problems that jeopardize the achievement of objectives and those which are not being addressed adequately at the line management level.
  • Protecting interests of employees and IFDC in accordance with HR policies and governmental laws and regulations. Approving recommendations for terminations. Reviewing employee appeals through complaint procedure.
  • Identifying and assuring compliance with local labor law, legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting HR functions. Monitoring exposure of IFDC to regulations and directing the preparation of information requested or required for compliance.
  • Acting as advisor and resource person in legal cases related to HR functions with employees.
  • Overseeing employee safety, welfare, wellness, and health programs including employment physicals, travel vaccinations, safety training, and workers compensation claims.
  • Acting as standing member and HR advisor of the IFDC Committee for Safety, Security and Crisis (CSSC)
  • Serving as a company representative to outside organizations related to the HR functions (e.g., The Benefits Committee of the International Agriculture Research Center, community functions, Professional and Trade Associates)
DIFFICULTY OF WORK This position requires detailed knowledge of IFDC\'s personnel policies and procedures. Interpretation and judgment are needed to apply these guidelines to each employee\xe2\x80\x99s situation. The incumbent must possess an awareness of employment guidelines and benefit programs to manage payroll issues, maintain employee records, complete and record information related to benefits offered to employees, and be able to assist employees in understanding and evaluating the participation in these benefits programs. As an international organization, each employee\'s demands and expectations are quite different. This position must ensure that all employees (both U.S. and non-U.S.) feel they are treated equitably and often acts as the bridge between management and personnel. Conflict resolution and improving overall workplace morale is a key part of the incumbent\xe2\x80\x99s role. This position safeguards harmonized HR policies and functions to ensure fair and consistent treatment of all staff. RESPONSIBILITY The incumbent will manage the Global HR department, including staff, annual budgets, and investments. The GHRM reports to the Vice President Corporate Services and serves as the ranking HR executive and advisor to senior management in IFDC. This position has a defined set of duties and works independently. The incumbent will seek guidance from the supervisor as needed. Errors, if not detected, may result in IFDC\xe2\x80\x99s noncompliance with governmental rules and regulations or negative employer-employee relations. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS Most contacts are made with employees of varying backgrounds and cultures to discuss and resolve personnel matters. Incumbent must be able to exchange ideas, information, and opinions with others to formulate policies and procedures and/or jointly arrive at answers, conclusions, solutions, or solve disputes. This position deals with individuals with a range of moods and behaviors in a tactful, congenial, and professional manner while upholding and adhering to policy and procedures. The GHRM must have superior interpersonal skills and the ability to be tactful, mature, and flexible. The incumbent must be assertive and persuasive when resolving complaints and implementing policies and procedures. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT This position requires working in a normal office environment with no unusual demands or exposure to hazardous situations. International travel may be required and expected.

Required Experience
This position requires an HR professional background and a broad knowledge of employment practices, compensation plans, organizational planning, employee relations, and training and development. This job may involve the following:

  • Ability to maintain a high energy level while comfortably performing multifaceted tasks in conjunction with day-to-day activities

  • Proficiency in HR applications of the trade in human resources including HRIS, applicant tracking system, onboarding software, Microsoft Office suite of products, file management, and benefits administration
  • Knowledge of a foreign language especially French would be desirable
  • Minimum of a master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Human Resource Management with 15 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in progressively responsible HR leadership roles
  • Minimum of 5 years serving as a manager in Human Resources
  • International HR experience preferred
  • Experience in nonprofit, public, private, and NGO environments preferred
  • Experience with 200-500 employee organizations
  • Affiliation with successful organization and companies who practice effective and agile HR management is a plus
