About this Opportunity

Brunswick County is currently accepting applications for a Geographic Information System (GIS) Land Records Cartographer to join our Tax Department. The GIS Land Records Cartographer is responsible for providing support within the GIS and Tax Administration Department processes, land mapping, property transfers and conveyances for updating after deeds are recorded within the Land Records Department. Work includes:

• Obtaining property conveyances and verifying legal descriptions and digital mapping information from the Register of Deeds and other County departments.
• Updating maps and data using the County\'s GIS.
• Daily maintenance of land parcels and analyzing, preparing and maintaining cadastral maps utilizing GIS.
• Assigning parcel numbers and reviewing documents prior to the recording process.
• Working with attorneys to confirm and clarify information included with property transfers.
• Working with surveyors to confirm and clarify information included with recorded surveys.
• Acting as the Review Officer and reviewing surveys prior to the recording process, as needed.

The GIS Land Records Cartographer works closely with surveyors, attorneys, property owners, County and other municipal departments, and other members of the general public. If you are a customer focused individual with excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills with a proven record of demonstrating initiative while exercising good judgement, we\'d love to talk to you! The GIS Land Records Cartographer reports directly to the GIS Land Records Supervisor.

Education and Experience

Associate degree in GIS, geography, computer-aided drafting, or related field AND two (2) years of experience with drafting and mapping (paralegal and/or clerical work setting highly desirable); OR any equivalent combination of training and experience with provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

• Valid NC or SC driver license required.
• NCPMA Mapper Certification or the ability to obtain within first three years of employment (including ability to meet classroom/training requirements) is required.
• NCPMA Senior Mapper Certification highly desirable.
• Understanding and knowledge of the NC Machinery Act as it relates to Ad Valorem or property tax structure is preferred.

Physical Requirements
Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds). Tasks may require extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
