Through consultation, resource, inclusion, and co-teaching models, the Special Education team provides essential support, following an Individualized Education Plan, to ensure each student is served in the least restrictive environment possible.

Great Hearts SPED Coordinator Position Description:

*This position is based on campus.*

The Special Education Campus Coordinator (in collaboration with the Special Education Director, Regional Coordinator, and Campus Headmaster) will:

  • Coordinate all aspects of the Child Centered Special Education Process on assigned campus.
  • Ensure that the ARD/IEP process and the quality of programs for students with disabilities are in compliance with Federal, State, and Local requirements.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
\xef\x82\xb7 Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree (Preferred)
\xef\x82\xb7 Valid Texas Teacher Certification
\xef\x82\xb7 Special Education Certification/Appropriate Board Licensure

Experience:
\xef\x82\xb7 3 years of successful teaching experience
\xef\x82\xb7 Campus leadership experience
\xef\x82\xb7 Experience coaching/mentoring teachers and/or providing professional development

Special Knowledge/Skills:
\xef\x82\xb7 Ability to prepare appropriate individual education program (IEPs)
\xef\x82\xb7 Knowledge of local, state and federal rules and regulations pertaining to special education
\xef\x82\xb7 Knowledge of various special education eligibility conditions and the challenges to learning

\xef\x82\xb7 Knowledge of curriculum in grades K through 12
\xef\x82\xb7 Basic computer skills
\xef\x82\xb7 Strong organization and communication (written and oral)
\xef\x82\xb7 Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students, and parents
