Job Description

The Department of Surgery at The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hilll, NC is seeking applications for a full-time Board Certified/Eligible General Surgeon who will work at our Chatham Hospital and Hillsborough Campus. The Division of General Surgery is among 10 clinical divisions in the Department of Surgery. The Division currently includes 4 faculty members that provide a broad array of clinical services to provide the highest quality of care for general surgery patients.

This is an Open Rank, Fixed Term, 0.5 FTE to 1.0 FTE Academic appointment that will be offered commensurate with the candidate\'s experience. Qualified applicants should have an interest in and experience with a broad array of general surgical procedures and a keen interest in the areas of patient care, medical education, and clinical research. Chatham Hospital is a 25-bed facility located in Siler City, NC. UNC Health Care Hillsborough is a relatively new community hospital which is an extension of UNC Medical Center. The 68-bed facility combines a community hospital culture with the innovative procedures and care for which the UNC Medical Center is known.

Candidates will be expected to have demonstrated excellence in all three traditional academic missions: clinical practice, education, and research, as evidenced by experience, outcomes, and references. The candidate must have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment, promote teamwork and learning, and lead by example. Regarding the education mission, faculty members are expected to regularly participate in the education of medical students and residents. Additionally, General Surgery faculty participate in outreach to our rural referring hospitals. Regarding the clinical mission, faculty members must be committed to delivering high quality care to the patients.
