Job Description

The General Maintenance Tech I is an entry-level position that offers opportunities for growth and advancement. This position works under the supervision of the Lead Technician and Facility Manager, contributing to a variety of maintenance tasks across multiple areas, including carpentry, painting, moves/setups, and locksmithing. The role will involve hands-on work such as interior and exterior painting, carpentry, basic plumbing, and lock repairs. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision, and also thrive in a team-oriented environment.

Pay:

$20 per hour (annualized to $41,600).

Total Compensation:

Ranges from $56,847 to $69,766, depending on the medical and dental plans selected.

Responsibilities

Perform a variety of building maintenance functions, including regular maintenance tasks and completing basic work orders. Carry out basic plumbing, painting, and carpentry work as needed. Assist with the setup and breakdown of events and activities. Maintain tools, equipment, the shop, and vehicles in good working condition. Participate in snow removal activities, including shoveling, snow blowing, and plowing. Complete initial and annual regulatory compliance and safety training as assigned, and ensure compliance with occupational safety and health standards, rules, and regulations. Report any hazards, unsafe work practices, or accidents to the supervisor immediately. Take on on-call phone responsibilities after training and qualifications are met. Primarily a Monday through Friday 1st shift job, but the ability to work evenings, weekends for winter storms, and an on-call rotation. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school education, with 3 to 5 years of relevant technical training/experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. Broad knowledge in carpentry, maintenance and repair, painting, locksmithing, and general plumbing. Proficiency with basic computer functions, including email and Windows applications. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively. Knowledge of door and window functions and mechanics. Ability to interact effectively with university staff, students, faculty, and the broader community. Strong organizational skills for managing both clerical tasks and tool/inventory maintenance in the shop. Able to diagnose and troubleshoot maintenance issues. Familiarity with operating woodshop tools safely and efficiently. Solid general knowledge of building construction and repair. Ability to perform physical tasks required for the role, including lifting, bending, and working in various conditions.
