We are seeking a part-time Gardener to assist the horticulture team in Parks Maintenance District 5, Central Business District. The ideal candidate has a passion for horticulture and how public parks contribute exceptional experiences to the lives of the people of Raleigh. About You: We are seeking a new team member who has a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn by doing. The ideal candidate will have a passion to understand good horticultural practices including, weeding, watering, proper pruning, soil preparation, planting, invasive plant removal, soil testing, and fertilization. This new team member must have excellent customer service skills, works independently with minimal supervision and can effectively collaborate as a part of our team. However, the minimum hours are 15 hours per week and the maximum allotted hours for this position are 25 hours per week. Our office hours are during weekdays from 7:00 am - 3:30 pm in the Fall/Winter and 6:00 am - 2:30 pm in Spring/Summer.

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.Completes various maintenance tasks that are subject to change depending on the season. These include hedge trimming, weeding, debris removal, trash collection, plant installation and care, watering, tree pruning, mulching and driving various types of vehicles such as UTV's and dump trucksReceives training on how to safely operate small equipment and required to use equipment such as, string trimmers, blowers, edgers, and operate commercial vehicles and trailers under 26,000 pounds (non-CDL)Advises garden clubs, civic groups, and individual citizens on gardening subjects Works regularly with volunteers to accomplish large projectsAssists the City with cleanup and repair during inclement weather situations
