Hi Everyone. This is Mike with LegacyDoorsAndMore.com
I am looking to hire an apprentice. We do everything home/property. Garage Doors, Handyman, remodels, new construction A-Z, etc. See more details on our site. NOTE: If interested, send me an email and I will send you our inhouse application. If you have experience, any pictures of your work to back it up would also help. Understand when we post a job listing we get flooded with Inquiries. Those that don't only reach out and or fill out Indeeds basic job application, often get overlooked. Our Internal application answers a lot of our questions quickly. For those that want to call direct I always appreciate the initiative, however I am spread so thin I really can't hold multiple 1-2hour phone calls a day.
To summarize here. Pay starts at $20 an hour+Commissions to start. Once certified, you get on Full commissions of profit share. Up to 44% max of the profit, but likely averaging 25-35% as it does fluctuate. This long term pay scale is specifically formulated to incentivize hard working rockstars. Lazy, dramatic, entitled, tardy, terrible work ethic employees, will not last.
I expect certification to run approx. 3-12 months depending on my apprentice' experience, speed of growth, ability to learn, ability to listen, how much they apply themselves etc. During this time expect highs and lows on hours. I.e. one week we could be slammed 40hours, next week might only have 5hours. A lot of our home service/repairs will be at a moments notice, same day service. The more readily available my apprentice can be, not only will they make more hours, this will help them advance faster. To be fair tho, we have been so overbooked for the last several months we are losing a lot of jobs we can't get to. Nov was $50000+, Oct was $35000+ etc. We have been long overdue for growth.
We are looking for an experience garage door tech/installer/salesmen. At least 1 year of experience. Still will to coach through. Understand regardless of experience, you will need to be trained to do it the Legacy way. We are NOT a half ass, slap it together type of company. Every job needs maticulous precision.
What sets us apart from the other door companies? We actually do EVERYTHING home and property. Full remodels, new construction, custom metal fabed railing, gates, epoxy floors, and have plenty of subs for tile, roofing, concrete, electrical, hvac etc etc. This is very lucrative as upon certification, you have the opportunity to not just do that garage door, but also sell the client on another project. I could talk your ear off about how many of our clients started with a $500-3000 garage door job, and ended up doing tens of thousands of dollars in jobs over the next few years with repeat/referral work. This is very lucrative as long term you get sales commissions, even for jobs you don't do. I.e. Sell a $30000 deck, you'd still get a commission on it just for the sale.
Ideal candidate would be located in/near Layton Utah. Majority of our work is within 10 miles of this, and all of which would be meeting at the shop in Layton, tho we are steadily growing.
I'm booked at least 2-3 months out, and it keeps piling in. We have a $80000 basement remodel, $10000 custom fab deck railing, about $50000 in garage doors, Daily service/repairs keep piling in, and at this point i am losing/turning down approx $40000-30000 of work each month as we are so far behind i can't get to it. This is all with minimal advertising. We are long overdue to get a certified technician into their own truck, and crank up the advertising to keep them busy.
As of Early Dec 2025, it's me plus my apprentice who has been mostly trained on remodels, and a bit of garage door work (like 20 hours of it is all). I am exploring candidates to hire an experience tech right after the holidays, and would have this person role mostly with my apprentice to get him trained up as well. He is a great employee, just needs experience and we need to be able to take on more work ASAP. So i'm looking for someone experienced, who also can be a decent trainer for the first couple months. At least train him through the basics. He understands the basics, but needs to apply them several times, as well as run into those more "unique" scenarios before i consider certifying him.
I would also point out that in this company we will primarily have you doing garage doors, it is our most profitable per hour/lowest liability trade. But on occassion might have you do some other trades. This is a great opportunity for someone that wants to learn other things. Also for those that want to ever flip houses/rentals/do their own house projects, a major benefit is that you can hire the company/coworkers/equipment at an employee discount rate. I.e. you could do a $200000 house flip for more like $150000. Etc. Long term this will be very lucrative for those looking to build an investing empire. As well as small projects like a gate or something.
Other benefits include company phone, Ipad, Uniforms, work vehicle, larger tools provided though you need to supply your basic technician tools. I.e. we provide a $1600 mitre saw, but the $200 sawzall is on you.
No insurance, or 401k/IRA. We prefer to pay you a lot more, so you can afford a lot better insurance. Rather than be that company that pays only $500 a month for a $10000 deductible garbage insurance and calls it a "benefit".
I will go into further detail on how commission works, scope of work etc. Best thing for you to do is email me at LegacyDMMike@gmail.com in the subject line put "requesting application" I will send you an application with more details, and that helps me get to know you. Note, calling me directly, or only filling out an indeed application, I will direct you to filling out our internal application anyways. Sorry to say I do not have time to have several hours of phone interviews per day, and indeed has the most generic application that really only answers 1/100th of what I need to know about you.
