Job Description

Summary of Work



The Gaming Division regulates, enforces, and administers charitable gaming in North Dakota, performs audits and investigations of gaming organizations, reviews gaming tax returns and administrative complaints, and provides training for charitable gaming organizations in order to promote transparency and accountability, and to ensure the honesty and integrity of all gaming activities. The Gaming Investigator I would aid the Bureau of Criminal Investigation's lead Gaming Criminal Investigator by assisting with criminal investigations involving charitable gaming and other related laws.


The Gaming Investigator I duties would include assisting with:

Conducting background investigations and licensing of potential gaming organizations Assist with criminal investigations involving charitable gaming and other related laws and cooperate with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies Monitoring any illegal activity with regards to gaming in the state of North Dakota Maintaining all gaming complaint files and mediate consumer complaints against gaming organizations Educating the public about gaming rules and laws Testing and monitoring all electronic gaming machines throughout North Dakota Undercover operations for gaming violations Preparation of Notice of Violations of Gaming Laws to the charitable organizations, distributors, and manufacturers Compliance checks of gaming sites throughout the state Conduct tribal casino site visits and inspections as outlined in the North Dakota Indian Gaming Compacts. This position requires the successful candidate to travel throughout the state including some overnight stays, to operate a state fleet vehicle, and to attend training opportunities throughout the state and out of state. Hours are flexible but should not exceed a 40-hour work week on average.


In addition to the monthly salary, this position includes fully paid health insurance for employee and family (with a wellness rider included), the option to participate in employee-paid dental and vision for employee and family, participation in the state NDPERS defined contribution retirement plan as well as the option to participate in the 457 deferred compensation plan, the option to contribute to a medical spending account, as well as paid annual leave and sick leave.


Employees in this position are eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.

This is a non-remote position located at the ND Capitol in Bismarck, ND.


Minimum Qualifications



Associate degree or equivalent credit hours from an accredited college or university. A bachelor's degree and/or degree in business, accounting, law enforcement, criminology, or similar areas will be given preference 4 years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid investigative, law enforcement, desktop computer, surveillance, accounting/auditing and/or business operations, lottery operations, gaming operations, and/or casino operations may be substituted for the bachelor's degree if it led to the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to performing the gaming investigative work required. Preference may be shown to applicants with investigative experience in casino or gaming operations. Must possess (or be eligible to obtain upon hire) a valid North Dakota Driver License Excellent report writing, communication skills, prioritization, time management, and organization skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective, harmonious working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, criminal justice agencies, and the public. Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Successful completion of the interview process, reference checks, and standard background and criminal record checks to determine knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform Gaming Investigator I tasks.
