Job Summary


The Furnace Utility Operator plays a key role in monitoring and controlling firebox and cutting wheel operations to ensure safe and efficient plant performance.



Responsibilities

Monitor forehearth, firebox, and cutting wheel conditions Record hourly readings for gas, oxygen, temperature, and water flow Assist with switching out cutting wheels and forehearth bowl assemblies Operate forklifts and front-end loaders (training available) Transfer and weigh cullet bins; maintain cullet pad records Perform visual and audible inspections of equipment Create maintenance work requests and report safety concerns Support batch house operations and collaborate with other departments Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, and housekeeping standards


Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required 3-5 years of industrial experience preferred (furnace or boiler operations ideal) Forklift experience and/or certification preferred Basic computer skills and ability to follow instructions Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and teamwork skills


Physical & Environmental Conditions

Frequent standing, walking, climbing, and grasping Exposure to high temperatures, dust, fumes, and moving machinery Use of PPE including hard hat, safety boots, gloves, goggles, and respirators
