CERTIFIED OR NON-CERTIFIED FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER

The Dunbarton Police Department is currently accepting resumes and cover letters for one (1) Certified (NH or out-of-state equivalent) or Non-Certified Full-Time Police Officer. The Department is currently comprised of six (6) Full-Time Officers to include the Chief of Police, three (3) Part-Time Officers and one (1) Part-Time Office Administrator.

Dunbarton Police Officers are responsible for responding to calls for service, conducting criminal investigations and traffic enforcement and participating in various community policing initiatives. Our officers are well-rounded law enforcement professionals that have the opportunity to work and resolve cases from start to finish and make long lasting community connections. We enjoy a fantastic working relationship and collaboration with surrounding law enforcement agencies. Our dispatching services are provided by the Goffstown Police Department and our prosecution services are provided by the Concord City Prosecutor's Office and the Merrimack County Attorney's Office. We are a member agency of the Central New Hampshire Special Operations Unit (CNHSOU), New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, and Southern New Hampshire Peer Support/Critical Incident Stress Management Team.

With a population of approximately 3,200 residents, the growing Town of Dunbarton is supportive of their police department and provides a friendly, small town New England atmosphere that is rich in history and conveniently located near Concord, the State Capital, and Manchester, the State's largest city.

The Dunbarton Police Department and the Town of Dunbarton offer a generous benefits package which includes membership in NH Group II Retirement, health/vision/dental insurance, sick leave, vacation time, and a tuition reimbursement program. Wages for non-certified candidates range between $29.28/hour to $30.01/hour while in the police academy and field training program. Upon release to solo patrol, wages increase to $33.32/hour. Wages for certified candidates range up to $37.69/hour depending on qualifications and years of prior law enforcement experience (a proposed 3% COLA in 2026 would increase the top hourly rate to $38.82/hour). This does not include 12 paid holidays which is up to an additional $3,618 per year.

Additional compensation may be earned through overtime, time-and-a-half pay on holiday hours worked, extra detail opportunities ($60/hour paid to the officer) and grant funded enforcement patrols. In addition, full-time employees covered by another qualified health insurance plan currently receive an annual opt out stipend of approximately $5,974 paid out in monthly installments (increasing to $6,919 in 2026). The Town also offers a generous longevity bonus ranging from $400-$2,000 annually depending on years of full-time service with the Town.

The Dunbarton Police Department places a strong emphasis on training, professional development and employee wellness. Our in-service training program incorporates semi-annual Gracie Survival Tactics (Jiu-Jitsu) and active shooter response training, as well as ongoing mental health and resiliency training. Dunbarton Police Officers currently enjoy Load Bearing Vests, a paid gym membership with one (1) hour of on-duty workout time, a compressed work schedule, annual wellness consultations, a department-issued cell phone (AT&T FirstNet), a paid Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) membership, and opportunities for specialized and instructor assignments. In addition, the Department has a progressive grooming and tattoo policy and is a Select Employer Group (SEG) with Service Credit Union, affording members access to discounted loan rates, access to free financial education resources, and 1-1 financial counseling. The Department is also approved for On-The-Job (OJT) benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Candidates must be a United States Citizen, 21 years of age, have a High School Diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, meet criminal/motor vehicle record standards and past drug usage standards set forth by the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council ("PSTC") and this Department. A college degree and/or military experience is preferred. The hiring process may include a written test/writing sample, physical agility test, oral board interviews, background investigation, medical examination and drug screening, polygraph examination, and a psychological examination. Certain components of the selection process may be waived by the Chief of Police for certified applicants.

We anticipate holding a Physical Agility Test (PAT) in mid December. PAT standards (35th percentile) may be viewed here: https://www.pstc.nh.gov/faq/index.htm#fitnesstest

The Dunbarton Police Department and the Town of Dunbarton are an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
