Position Summary & Responsibilities:
This position will remain posted until filled.
Location: Applicants must live in the Sedgwick County. Applicant will be assigned counties for inspection purpose (Sedgwick, Butler and Sumner Co)
Retail Fuel Dispenser Inspections.
The selected individual will inspect and test retail fuel dispensers and meters at places of business, where these devices are used in commercial transactions, for specifications, functionality, and tolerance to ensure devices are in compliance with state statutes and regulations. The inspector will issue formal orders on behalf of the Kansas Department of Agriculture to businesses found out of compliance with state statutes and regulations. Inspection reports may be reviewed daily by the employee's supervisor for accuracy and completeness.
Vehicle Tank Meter Inspections
. The selected individual will inspect and test vehicle tank meters at places of business, where these devices are used in commercial transactions, for specifications, functionality, and tolerance to ensure devices are in compliance with state statutes and regulations. The inspector will issue formal orders on behalf of the Kansas Department of Agriculture to businesses found out of compliance with state statutes and regulations. Inspection reports may be reviewed daily by the employee's supervisor for accuracy and completeness.
Fuel Quality Inspections.
The selected individual will inspect storage tanks and collect fuel samples for quality testing. Storage tanks will be inspected for water and phase separation at the same time retail fuel devices are inspected. Gasoline based fuels will be sampled for ethanol content. Occasionally, the employee may receive special sampling assignments from the complaint system or supervisor.
Regular Duties
. The selected individual will be expected to complete daily computer data file transfers, write investigative reports, complete vehicle reports, submit expense reports, and update assigned issues in complaint tracking system. Vehicle and equipment maintenance and cleaning will be done as needed. Employees will be expected to stay current with communications and changes to statutes and regulations.
Other Duties as Assigned.
The employee will be expected to complete all other duties as assigned. Employee training will be assigned several times throughout the year and will usually involve traveling. This position may also be required to do some inspection work for other device types as needed.
This position will require the employee to travel regularly and stay out overnight on some occasions in order to use state resources efficiently.
This position is a home-based position. The applicant that is selected for this position will start each workday from his/her home.
Qualifications:
Professionally minded individuals with up to two years' experience or related field is preferred. Candidates may also qualify through a combination of relevant education, work experience, training or certification.
Ability to read and comprehend written directions, policies, statutes, and regulations.
Must be able to drive a truck while pulling a trailer and must be able to hookup, unhook and back a trailer.
Must know how to add, subtract, multiply, divide, convert units of measurement, and perform algebraic functions
Must be able repetitively lift up to 80 pounds
Employee must have a valid Class C (or higher) Kansas driver's license or equivalent license from another state. Employee is responsible to maintain an acceptable driving record to safely drive state vehicle and be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.
The selected individual will be asked to pass the National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM) Retail Motor Fuel Dispensing Systems and LMDVTM: Vehicle Tank Meters Professional Certification Exams within the first 24 months of employment. Training and time to take the exams and the cost of the exam will be provided by KDA.
