Purpose of the Role
The Fractional Controller serves as the day-to-day financial partner for a portfolio of clients. You ensure books are accurate, cash flow is understood, AP/AR is supported, and the client feels confident, supported, and cared for financially.
You are the bridge between bookkeeping and CFO strategy--owning the accuracy, context, and communication so higher-level strategy can be delivered effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping Oversight & Financial Accuracy
Review and validate bookkeeping for assigned clients
Ensure reconciliations are complete and accurate (bank, credit card, clearing accounts)
Flag anomalies, errors, and inconsistencies and coordinate corrections with the bookkeeping team
Maintain client-specific SOPs and processing checklists
Ensure all assigned clients are closed on time each month
AP / AR & Cash Flow Support
Assist with or oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable workflows
Ensure bills are paid on time and receivables are monitored
Maintain strong awareness of each client's cash position
Proactively alert clients and internal CFOs to potential cash flow concerns
Support Profit First and cash-management best practices
Client Relationship & Communication
Serve as the
primary financial point of contact
for assigned clients
Respond to client emails/Slack messages within established SLAs
Communicate clearly, confidently, and proactively--no surprises
Educate clients on their numbers, processes, and financial health
Manage expectations and guide clients into JEA systems and workflows
Controller-Level Insight & Internal Collaboration
Prepare or review monthly financial packages (P&L, Balance Sheet, key insights)
Record or contribute to client Loom summaries as needed
Identify trends, red flags, and opportunities within client financials
"Tee it up" for the CFO--bringing clean data, insights, and context
Discern what can be handled at the Controller level vs. escalated to CFO

Skills & Experience
Prior experience as a bookkeeper, senior bookkeeper, or accounting lead
Strong understanding of all aspects of the balance sheet
, including how balance sheet accounts flow, reconcile, and impact cash flow and financial decision-making
Strong understanding of financial statements and cash flow
Experience supporting multiple clients simultaneously
Comfort assisting with AP, AR, and cash-management workflows
Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to think critically and spot issues before clients do
Profit First familiarity preferred (or willingness to become certified)

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 - 40 per week
