Forest Officer - Equipment Operator ($4527.00 \xe2\x80\x93 $6912.00, Monthly plus benefits).

Four (4) years in wildland fire suppression OR bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in forestry or closely related natural resources field and one (1) year of wildland fire suppression.

One 3-6 month season is equivalent to one year of experience for seasonal positions only.

18 years of age

Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license with acceptable driving record.

Will be required to take and pass the physical fitness at the arduous level.

Note: Must obtain the Class B Warden certification within the trial service period.

Required Skills:

Must have a valid Class A CDL

General Duties

The purpose of this position is to provide leadership for seasonal workforce and serve as the coordinator for all fleet & facilities maintenance work on the Unit.

Serve as a relief duty officer and provides operational oversight during supervisor\xe2\x80\x99s absence. Responsible for the administration and enforcement of Oregon\xe2\x80\x99s fire prevention statutes and rules.

Coordinate and/or perform physical labor necessary to suppress and extinguish wildfire.

Duties include detection, pre-suppression, prevention, and suppression.

Skills we are looking for:

Preference given for experience running fire engines and operating dozers to construct fireline.

Strong leadership and mentoring skills.

Knowledge of forestry laws, rules, and regulations for the public.

Experience conducting fleet maintenance and minor repair activities on Unit vehicles (such as pickup trucks, fire engines, dozer).

Set goals, prioritize, organize, track, and provide recommendations for facilities maintenance projects.

Understanding of fire behavior, weather conditions/indices, and operational tactics and resource needs during initial attack incidents.

Experience coordinating with agency staff and interagency partners for planning and response activities.

Experience assisting with training sessions on vehicle operation or other required fire training courses.

Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
