Carolina Outreach is seeking a Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) Peer Support Specialist who provides support, advocacy, and mentorship to individuals with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders who are involved in the criminal justice system.

As a Forensic ACT Peer Support Specialist, you would use your lived experience with behavioral health challenges and justice system involvement to build trust and guide individuals through recovery and reintegration into the community. This role emphasizes justice system navigation, reentry support, and coordination with legal and behavioral health services to reduce recidivism and promote long-term stability.
Position Highlights:
Provide peer support, mentorship, and advocacy to individuals with behavioral health needs and criminal justice involvement.
Assist clients in navigating the legal system, including compliance with court, probation, or parole requirements.
Support reentry and recovery efforts by helping clients access housing, employment, and behavioral health services.
Collaborate with law enforcement, probation officers, and community partners to promote diversion and treatment alternatives to incarceration.
Participate in FACT team meetings and document client interactions in accordance with program protocols and confidentiality standards.

Compensation:
$21.15
Education:
+ High School Diploma or equivalent
Certification / Licensure Requirements:
+ Certification as a Peer Support Specialist, and at least two years of sustained recovery from mental health or substance use challenges
+ Certifications: Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification required within 90 days of hire. CPR/First Aid certification required.
+ Valid Driver's License and Reliable Transportation required.
Experience / Knowledge Requirements:
+ Lived experience with criminal justice involvement (incarceration, probation, or other legal system engagement) and demonstrated stability in the community.
+ Strong knowledge of behavioral health recovery principles, reentry challenges, and justice system operations.
+ Ability to effectively engage and support individuals with complex needs, including mental health, substance use, and legal issues.
+ Preferred: Experience working in forensic mental health settings, reentry programs, or advocacy roles related to justice-involved populations.
