The Food Service Director oversees the planning, preparation, and service of nutritious, appealing, and cost-effective meals for students and staff. This position ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, and supports the mission and values of the school community.
Responsibilities
Program Management
Plan, organize, and supervise the daily operations of the school cafeteria.
Develop menus that meet USDA and state nutritional guidelines while appealing to students.
Maintain accurate records of meals served, inventory, and participation in compliance with reporting requirements.
Monitor food safety and sanitation standards to ensure compliance with health regulations.
Oversee food purchasing, inventory control, and vendor relationships to ensure quality and cost efficiency.
Leadership & Supervision
Supervise, train, and evaluate food service staff; promote a positive, team-oriented environment.
Create staff schedules and assign duties to ensure efficient operation.
Provide professional development and maintain food safety certification compliance.
Budget & Compliance
Develop and monitor the cafeteria budget to ensure financial stability and accountability.
Maintain compliance with state and federal program requirements (including free/reduced lunch if applicable).
Manage collection and tracking of lunch payments and related documentation.
Health, Safety & Quality
Ensure safe food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures at all times.
Maintain clean, organized kitchen and serving areas.
Collaborate with administration to support wellness initiatives and promote healthy eating habits.
Community & Mission
Foster a welcoming, respectful dining environment for students and staff.
Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and administrators regarding menus and allergies.
Participate in school and community events as appropriate.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in nutrition, food service management, or related field preferred.
Minimum 3 years of food service management experience (school or institutional setting preferred).
Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and nutrition standards.
ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain).
Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Ability to lift 30-40 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Pay: $52,000.00 - $56,000.00 per year
