The Fleet Maintenance Manager assesses the uptime, safety, and cost effectiveness of our tractor/trailer fleet. Work with Fleet Manager and shop techs and vendors, run the preventive maintenance (PM) program, manage inventory parts and tires, ensure DOT/FMCSA compliance, and partner with Dispatch/Operations & Compliance to keep equipment road-ready with minimal dwell.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Operations
Plan, schedule, and execute PMs and repairs for tractors (Daycab/sleeper), dry vans, and reefers per OEM and warranty specs.
Maintain an accurate equipment roster, service intervals, and unit histories (e.g., Fleetio/TMT).
Triage road-calls and coordinate mobile repair and maintain an after-hours response plan with our night crew.
Oversee DVIR; s with drivers that addresses a tire program (mounting, tread-depth, casing management, vendor pricing) and brake/ABS, lights, and safety-critical systems.
Manage reefer units (to current vendors or lease programs, fuel usage, temp-download procedures).
Maintain California Carb compliance on a timely manner
Enforce quality control on all completed work; verify torque specs and signoffs.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure 100% DOT readiness: annual inspections (396.17), DVIR defect remediation, recordkeeping, recall/warranty campaigns.
Partner with our Safety/Compliance staff on BIT/terminal inspections, CSA, and DataQ documentation.
Create and audit SOPs for DVIR close-out, OOS criteria, and red-tag/return-to-service procedures.
Maintain environmental compliance: SPCC, waste oil/filters, refrigerant handling (EPA 608), battery disposal, OSHA.
Required Qualifications
5+ years heavy-duty diesel maintenance experience; 2+ years leading a shop or multi-site program.
Strong working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA, BIT, DVIR workflows, and 49 CFR 396 recordkeeping.
Hands-on depth with tractors/trailers, ABS/EBS, air systems, and refrigeration units.
Proficiency with CMMS/EAM (Fleetio, TMT, or similar), telematics (Motive), and Excel/Sheets.
Valid driver's license; CDL-A or the ability to road-test equipment (preferred).
ASE Medium/Heavy Truck (T4 Brakes, T8 PM) or OEM/Carrier Transicold/Thermo King certifications (preferred).
Pay: $65,244.59 - $78,574.13 per year
