The Fixture Builder is responsible for working closely with the Engineering Team in designing, fabricating, and assembling custom fixtures, jigs, and tooling used in manufacturing processes. This role ensures that fixtures meet specifications for accuracy, durability, and efficiency to support production and quality standards. Additionally, this position is responsible for validation activities of welded tooling by welding sample parts and 1st Articles for Quality inspection.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to build fixtures and jigs.
Select appropriate materials and components for fixture construction.
Operate fabrication equipment such as mills, lathes, grinders, and welding machines.
Assemble and test fixtures to ensure proper functionality and alignment.
Collaborate with engineers and production teams to improve fixture designs for efficiency and safety.
Maintain documentation for fixture designs and revisions.
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on fixtures as needed.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies.
Weld samples, prototypes, and 1st Articles for inspection and validation.
Maintain work area and work on other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification preferred.
Weld training and certification.
2+ years of experience in fixture building, toolmaking, or precision fabrication.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, including strong knowledge of weld symbols and
Skilled in machining, welding, and assembly techniques, preferred.
Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Able to complete Defect & Discontinuity Training / Testing (required 80% passing minimum)
Able to pass GMAW (MIG) Fillet weld test in the 2F (horizontal position) 1 of the smallest size, and 1 of the largest size used in production. Including dissimilar materials, ferrous, and non-ferrous.
Able to pass GMAW (MIG) Groove weld test in the 2G, or 3G (horizontal position) or (Vertical up)
Able to pass GTAW (TIG) Fillet weld test in the 5F (Flat, Horizontal, Vertical, and Overhead position) including dissimilar materials, ferrous, and non-ferrous.
Able to complete Expert Print, weld geometry & weld symbol Training / Testing (required 78% passing minimum)
The ability to produce production parts from a fixture, Bluco set-up & work instruction.)
The ability to produce pre-production parts i.e. Dimensional lay out from print, 1st time Bluco set-up, and Tack / Weld sequencing.
The ability to assemble new fixtures (including pic-offs) for 1st run PPAP samples, including alterations with the direction of Quality and Engineering if needed.
Must have ability to multitask.
Must have a high attention to detail.
Team oriented attitude.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Manual dexterity for precision work.
