Job Description

Position Summary:

This is a position to become a Journeyman Lineman through the CEMC Apprenticeship Program. The employee will be placed in and will advance in the Program according to the requirements and Standards of the CEMC Apprenticeship Committee and the U.S Department of Labor. The apprentice shall apply oneself to the work and study and keep his immediate supervisor informed of progress. The apprentice will be under qualified supervision through all phases of the training period by competent personnel and will receive periodic review and evaluation of his progress in the program.

IF FOR SOME REASON THE EMPLOYEE FILLING THIS POSITION DOES NOT WISH TO ADVANCE IN THE APPRENTICE PROGRAM, OR IN THE OPINION OF MANAGEMENT, THE EMPLOYEE HAS NOT SHOWN THE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED OF A JOURNEYMAN LINEMAN, THE EMPLOYEE WILL BE SUBJECT TO TERMINATION AS AN EMPLOYEE.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



Observes and practices CEMC safety rules, procedures, safety policies, and bulletins. Assists crews in connecting services, line construction, and repairing outages. Learns and is able to identify various line materials, tools, and equipment used by line construction/service crews. Stocks vehicles with materials, tools, and equipment needed by the line construction/service crews. Learns basic maintenance of line equipment and vehicles. Assists with digging pole and anchor holes Serves on-call on rotation within the district. Assists linemen in restoring electric service while on-call. Successful demonstration of proficiency in the required skills as set forth in the CEMC Apprenticeship Program. Successful completion of related instruction for the apprenticeship period as set forth in the CEMC Apprenticeship Program. Must maintain a positive attitude and efficient work ethic while completing tasks set forth for this period of apprenticeship.

Microsoft Outlook, Partner, Partner Inspection, IVUE, Federated Safe App


Education Degrees, Certificates, Licenses, and/or Training:

Exceptional favorable experience may be considered for a portion of the education requirements.

Required:

High School Diploma or equivalent. Class A Interstate Commercial Driver's License with a 57 Restriction or the ability to obtain one within 90 days Climbing Certification First Aid/CPR Certification Bucket Truck Rescue Pole Top Rescue
Preferred: Additional formal education, specifically in the electric utility field.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Exceptional favorable education may be considered for a portion of the experience requirements.

Preferred: Experience working with other employees in a team effort.


Knowledge of electric utility operations and safety practices in electricity, line construction, maintenance, etc.

Required:

Effective working knowledge of applicable software and ability to operate applicable equipment with an acceptable degree of speed and accuracy.


Ability to read and write.


Ability to use hand tools and operate light equipment, such as chain saw, air compressor, etc.


Ability to handle several related items at the same time.


Ability to work with all cooperative employees in the best interest of the Cooperative.

Residency

:


Must reside within the applicable District Service Area or forty-five (45) minutes of the assigned district office.

Any employee hired after November 1, 2020 subject to on-call duty, must reside within thirty (30) minutes of the assigned office.

If currently living outside these requirements, must be willing to relocate to the above within the first ninety (90) days of employment.

Working Conditions:




Minimum of eight hours a day, five days a week.


Almost constantly works outside and frequently under inclement weather conditions.


Frequently drives and/or rides to various construction sites.
