Under basic supervision, functions as a member of Sandoval County Fire and Rescue (SCFR) firefighting team by performing skilled work in fire suppression, emergency medical services, life support, and rescue operations; maintains technical certifications as Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B); maintains required licensure; provides patient care within the scope of Sandoval County protocols and operates within scope of EMT-B licensure; and performs other related duties as assigned / required. Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma/GED Certificate from an accredited institution; Associate's Degree in Fire Science, Emergency Medical Services, or related field is preferred. Prior experience in the firefighting or EMS field(s) is preferred.
+ Eligible candidates with current full-time employment and two years of experience as a structural firefighter in an all-hazards agency responsible for residential and commercial fire responses as well as EMS, AND candidates who have completed a new hire academy and hold current certification as an IFSAC or ProBoard Firefighter II may be considered LATERAL, and given preference, and may have reduced New Hire Academy training requirements and duration.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) License from New Mexico Emergency Medical Systems (NMEMS) preferred.
+ National registry will be accepted at time of application but candidate must obtain reciprocity through the New Mexico EMS Bureau prior to the completion of the fire department's New Hire Academy.
+ Non-EMT's: Candidates who do not possess an EMT license at time of hire must obtain NMEMS EMT-licensure within six (6) months post completion of the SCFR Fire Academy. SCFR will either provide EMT Basic training internally or send candidates to an accredited institution to obtain licensure. Valid New Mexico driver's license.

Successful completion of the following:
+ Sandoval County Fire Department EMT-Basic test with a score of 80% or higher;
+ OSHA 202 Physical and DOT screening
+ Sandoval County Firefighter physical capacity/agility test; and a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening;
+ Background check as required
+ Successful completion of an annual physical capacity/agility test and OSHA 202 physical.

Essential Job Functions

Responds to emergency alarms and calls for service, and performs fire suppression, rescue, life support, and emergency medical duties as required to control emergency incidents; relays orders, instructions and information on emergency actions, and follows orders under stressful conditions.
Work requires the safe operation of county emergency and/or passenger vehicles, as necessary.
Performs assigned duties within scope of authority and training, and according to SCFR policies and procedures; duties may vary according to job assignment and skill level.
Operates emergency, fire, rescue, medical, and life saving tools and equipment; ventilates and enters burning structures to extinguish fires and rescue victims.
Inspects, cleans, and maintains a variety of equipment, tools, and apparatus; assures that all emergency response equipment is in a proper state of readiness and available for immediate use.
Performs station maintenance; maintains station living quarters in clean and orderly condition; operates, inspects and maintains ambulance and other fire equipment; performs minor repairs on apparatus and equipment inside and outside of facilities; orders replacement supplies as needed.
Assesses, treats, stabilizes, and transports patients according to SCFR medical protocol and level of emergency medical certification/licensure; restocks medical supplies.
Inspects, tests, evaluates, cleans, and repairs equipment after use; notifies supervisors of equipment problems beyond the scope of skills and training.
Participates in classes, drills, and training to maintain and upgrade fire fighting, rescue, and emergency medical skills; prepares reports, and maintains SCFR records and work logs.
Continuously updates knowledge of regional traffic patterns, roads, landmarks, building locations, and special hazards of designated facilities, to assure that emergency services are provided in a fast, effective and safe manner.
Assists and coordinates with law enforcement personnel and other first responders as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
