Duties Summary

Financial Institution Examiners examine and investigate financial institutions such as banks, trust companies, savings and loan associations, industrial loan companies, credit unions, escrow depositories, small loan companies, small business investment companies, and other types of financial institutions, to determine the financial condition of the institution, evaluate its management and determine compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations governing the conduct of these institutions. Financial Institution Examiners in State service are generally one of two types, involved either in field examinations of financial institutions or the review and investigation of administrative applications, off-site monitoring of financial institutions, and review and licensure of escrow depositories. For a substantial amount of time, the Financial Institution Examiner III may serve as examiner-in-charge of field examinations which are of considerable scope and complexity, usually involving the examination of large-sized financial institutions, and including those which require greater attention due to size, complexity of organization and operations and/or changes in financial condition which may be detrimental to the best interests of the business community and the public.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Financial Institution Examining Experience: For level III only, one year of responsible professional experience which demonstrated knowledge and application of generally accepted professional accounting and auditing principles, theory and practices for the purpose of examining the business operations of financial institutions. Such experience must have involved the examination of financial institutions to determine particularly the institution\'s sound capital, the quality of its loans and securities portfolios, the existence of practices likely to lead to financial difficulties, and possible violations of applicable laws or regulations. At least one year of this experience must have been comparable to the next lower level in State service (Financial Institution Examiner II).
