Job Description

TheFinancial Analyst provides strategic financial support for the college and academic departments and operational units. This role is responsible for developing and managing budgets, performing financial analysis, and ensuring compliance with institutional policies. The analyst contributes to long-term planning through forecasting, modeling, and market analysis, serving as a key partner in driving informed financial decisions.

College of Science at the University of Utah

Responsibilities


Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Strategy

Develop, monitor, and reconcile multi-unit budgets, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Conduct monthly and annual budget reviews, variance analyses, and year-end reconciliations. Create financial models and forecasts for tuition revenue and funding sources to support strategic planning. Manage salary adjustments, tuition benefits, and fund transfers across departments. Prepare and analyze financial reports, including development, research, finance and strategic planning documents.

Financial Transactions - Approval & Compliance

Process and review ePAF transactions for faculty and staff. Monitor and approve eJournal entries, cost transfers, deposits, and payroll adjustments. Review vendor payments, UShop requests, and travel reimbursements for compliance. Oversee PCard transactions, resolve payroll discrepancies, and evaluate purchasing requests.

Collaboration & Leadership

Act as a financial liaison to faculty and departmental leadership. Collaborate with the finance team to streamline operations and implement best practices. Support the development and sustainability of financial policies within the College of Science.

Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); plus two years of related experience. Also required are a thorough knowledge of established accounting principles and practices; spreadsheet and database skills; knowledge of statistics and demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relation and effective communication skills required.



An advanced degree, such as a Master's of Business Administration, is preferred. Certain positions may require familiarity with hospital billing systems, Medicare and insurance reimbursement regulations, etc.
