Job Summary: The Financial/Accounting III will be assigned to the Corporate Finance department and will be responsible for Financial, Planning and Analysis and/or accounting responsibilities. The Financial Analyst III is responsible for providing crucial support to the finance team in various areas of assigned specialization. The position will perform higher level financial analysis, conduct accurate and timely analysis using a wide variety of sources and meet with senior managers and directors across the Enterprise. Build models, schedules and templates to inform operational, financial, and strategic decisions. The responsibilities will be dependent on the specific tasks assigned to the individual.

This position can be located in one of our three locations (Newark NJ, Wall NJ or Hopewell NJ).

  • Deliver accurate variance reports of various financial activities and demonstrate expert skills around analyzing and interpreting financials using statistical, financial, and operational data. Explain and correct data variances and fluctuations.
  • Analysis and reporting of various financial activities, which may include: monthly, quarterly, and annual budgeting/forecasting, and general ledger closing activities. Prepare account reconciliations as well reporting that may include gross margin, revenue, and SG&A expenses.
  • BCBSA financial reporting including value based analysis and reporting for fully insured and ASO. Partner with Medical Economics to ensure that value based accruals are accurately stated by program, by year, and by LOB. Research and identify value-based payments in various forms, and update accruals to avoid duplication of accruals.
  • FEP reporting and analysis in accordance with the requirements of the BCBSA Directors office as well as the Federal Office of Personnel Management. Assist with FEP Cash Management, daily drawdowns, wire transfers, Special Plan Invoices (SPIs) and related account reconciliations.
  • Assist with Federal MLR reporting, particularly the identification Quality Improvement (QI) costs.
  • Accountable for maintaining effective internal controls over the processes and transactions under areas of responsibility including the completeness and accuracy of financial information and transactions, compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and the effectiveness and efficiency of operations.
  • Identify finance core processes for standardization/redesign and implement more streamlined procedures to enhance efficiency and controls. Document new and existing processes.
  • Record and analyze revenue and premiums, research and resolve variances related to revenue, and ensure that asset and liability accounts related to revenue activity are properly reflected.
  • Provide consultation or support to assigned divisions or companies on financial matters. Develop relationships with cross-functional stakeholders and business partners. Understand business implications and proactive problem solving to help deliver business results.
  • Responsible for special projects to streamline processes, improve efficiencies, or any business initiative as assigned by leadership.

Education/Experience
  • Bachelor\'s degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Master\'s degree in business administration, accounting or finance a plus.
  • Requires a minimum of (5) five years of progressively responsible experience within Finance. This may include, accounting, financial analysis, financial modeling, budgeting and related functions preferably in the health insurance industry or experience with general accounting, financial analysis, financial modeling, budgeting and related functions preferably in the health insurance industry
  • Prefer previous experience working for a large Corporation with revenue in excess of $500M
Additional Licensing, Certifications, Registrations
  • CPA or other healthcare specific financial certifications preferred
Knowledge
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of financial analysis to review, interpret, and translate financial and managerial reports to support the business in making decisions
  • Healthcare or insurance industry knowledge or familiarity a plus.
  • Experience with GL systems for journal entries and queries, ideally Workday.
  • Requires in depth knowledge of general accounting principles and methods; prefer knowledge of both Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting principles (SAP).
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of accounting standards and adheres to policies and regulations, technical review process, and consequences of non-compliance to monitor and reinforce quality assurance
  • Intermediate understanding of accounting principles to maintain general ledger (e.g., double entry system, processing of transactions, preparation of schedules, reports, documentation, etc.)
Skills and Abilities
  • Proven ability to develop relationships with internal customers, peers to guide and assist as needed.
  • Experience performing financial and ad hoc analyses using advanced Excel functionality. Macros/VBA a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously and drive projects to completion.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, business acumen and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional communications skills (written and oral)
  • Desire for ownership and ability to operate in fast paced environment and adopt to changing needs and responsibilities
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy and the ability to complete tasks with minimal oversight
  • Experience performing financial and ad hoc analyses using advanced Excel functionality. Macros/VBA a plus
  • Experience with current Horizon systems and software a plus
Salary Range: $83,000 - $113,295
